bit of confusion about this species.

I've seen it for sale listed as this species, but it didn't match the description of what I know Myrciaria floribunda as.

So can u provide a pic of what u want?  Maybe it's the plant I keep seeing, and don't recognize as rumberry.

thanks

that's the one I have acces to, labeled as rumberry myrciaria floribunda, but this isn't the right name for this plant.

the leaves are quite different on the real myrciaria floribunda.

btw, nice katuk...mine has flowers that never make fruits...I hear fruits can be eaten?  has yours held a fruit?

This one belongs to my wife can't sell. guavaberry eugenia floribunda.

Ya the katuk on the right...mine flowers but never sets fruits...I want to eat the fruits one day...they look like a mangosteen superficially.

the guavaberry from PIN, is not the true M. floribunda.

here is the real one.

the real one is far superior, and harder to find.   It always seems to work that way.   ;D

ha-doon't-knew

in other words,  I don't know.

But...

looks like a dang'ol'man'ol-syzigium...the leaves are so big and shiny...and the principal nerve is so yellow....the bark isn't peely enough to excite me like jabo does...it's duller and grayer...like lychee / jabo.  This is why I avoided purchasing these when I had the chance.

Peely crispy crusty tender flaky bark is more attractive to me

The conclusion is this:

jaboticabas are pretty much all mislabeled...and that goes for M. cauliflora..which is actually M. jaboticaba (sabara) 90% of the time.

In this case, the fruits of M. floribunda (the true one from brazil/south america) are probably not the ones you remember eating.

It was a species more like the one pictured by TREESNMORE.

Rumberry/Guavaberry = small myrtaceous fruit, probably in the family of Myrciaria, Plinia, Syzigium, or Eugenia.

So if u can get a picture of the leaves of the tree u like...then u will have a better chances of reuniting with your long lost fruit.

Hope you get to taste the fruit you are looking for, once again...and soon!

Well I have never tried them, it was my grandfather who used to eat them before he left Cuba. I would like to find those, but I also wouldn't mind finding the South American one if it turns out they are not the same plant.

right,

the names rumberry and guavaberry are used in general to describe small myrtaceous fruits...most commonly used as a spice or in the preparation of wine, etc.

Fruit and spice park has the real deal M. floribunda.  It looks like yellow garbage, but they did just drench it with Fe it appears...so it does have a reddish tint to the new growth.  They must be somewhat resilient if they can survive a city owned and operated park....with limestone...LOL

Go down there and get me some budwood...send it to me...and then I'll graft one for you for free.

They grow wild in some parts down here, but have not seen any here in the City.

I will check at the seed shop at our botanical garden to see if they have them in stock.

no I will have to find some other species to graft onto.

I have about 10 rootstocks to choose from.

the first one to try would be m jaboticaba of course.

I don't have high hopes for compatabilty.
