Ya, Tear off those mangoes so your tree can get big before fruiting, it sets the tree back to have it fruit that small.

YA RIGHT! I hate when people tell me to do this, especially on a condo mango which I'm trying to keep small (and fruiting) any way.

Good luck! Please don't knock of these fruits!  Better to taste it if youve never had it...that way u know if you even like them!

Beautiful tree!

If you leave the fruit on a very small tree, do you have to support the branches as the mangos grow?

Sorry Patrick...but that fruit is not mahachanok.  Looks more like some sort of the Nam Docs. :( Oh, on my edit, I see that you thought they were NDM too.  They are way too pointy at the bottom to be like what I know as maha chanok.

Nice mango tree, but it does look like a NDM. It looks identical to my ndm #4. Yours even has the "elephant's foot" like mine.

Yep, it looks like the ndm 4 and not a mahachanook

Nothing wrong with nam doc mine though :-). Me loves NDM.

Oh the joys of suffering from OCD.. I got a NDM #4 approach graft in a one gallon pot for $80 that required hours of nursing to health.. And I also got a warning from the USDA telling me this was my only opportunity to import..

That sucks. At least you managed to get a healthy tree out of it I guess. I think Jay got one from him too.

I'll send you one as long as you don't mind a little bit of mango malformation.  ;)

Thanks a pant load PJ!  Here I've been comfortable cherishing and nurturing my maha from Thailand all this time.  Now you throw in a truckload of doubt!!  Harry...I will be sending you pictures of my plant.  I hope like hell you can distinguish just from the leaves!!  Ignorance...truly is bliss.

If...IF...it turns out to be a NDM, during my next trip to Thailand, I will look up this Greenthumb.  He will further be known as greenasshole...because I will shove as many trees up there as I can get my hands on!

Didn't you buy it a couple months prior to murahilin publicly announcing Excalibur began releasing plants?

Did anyone else receive a Mahacha-not mango? Or did the rest of you get the real mahachanook?

HAHAHAH I like MahachaNOT better :-). That's pretty funny.

I'm curious to see what percentage of GT3000 buyers got the wrong tree.

lol I don't think that name would be good for marketing.  :)

Same thin happened to me a few years ago-I ordered an Etrog off Ebay and it ended up being a Buddas hand.

The clear differences I noted early on were the leaf flush and shape.

http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/tropicalfruits/msg0616361819294.html

Harry mentions that the color could be effected by the stress of bare rooting and he was 100% right.  The new growth looks identical to the Maha now, a light reddish color.  Also noteable is that the new flush has the spear shaped leaves. (as opposed to the longer, wider, rippled leaves like that of the Nam Doc..) and the ones right after the trip from Thailand resembled Nam Doc #4..  Another strange thing is that I had blooms and fruit set back in late November and two of the fruit that set were S-shaped with no sharp point on the tip..

As of right now I have a fruiting mango tree that has one rather plump short Nam Doc mango, and another one right above it that is long and slender with a sharp point.

May be a Luk Rong Won
