Mango Falan or Mango Thunder
« on: July 02, 2019, 08:20:00 AM »
Anyone growing Mango Falan or Mango Thunder?
This is a green mango. I have two small grafted trees with fruits. This mango cracks after too much water.
Seedlings start to bear fruits after 2 years and they are dwarf in nature. I will look into using them as a rootstock for pots.

Grows way to fast for me very hard to control size and erratic bearing as result of growth.

Two years from seed would impress.  I’ve seen the tree years ago in King Harry’s space and yes, dwarf. And poly.

With the right PGR dose it cab bear fruit in one year according to some studies.

I grow it in a 4 gallon pot. Now I have 2 fruits. Grows very well under cold weather and not much disease.

Not dwarf by any means I have been growing multiple  trees since 2004 it is a pita to control. Might help with a dwarfing rootstock or if you have very poor soil (sandy)

Shot I have two of these about 10 years old at my place just a few miles away from you but they are fairly small short internode growing trees with a more compact habit even planted fairly close to other trees. No telling what the rootstock was they were there on my place when I bought it. Stop by sometime and compare what we each have. I know mine are the real Falan, I found the tag but it said Fralan, however multiple Thai customers identify it and it certainly does crack very easily on the tree. When I picked a little late this year a lot popped in my hand as I laid them into the box. I sold every one green and could have sold a lot more even today I got a call but that season is over. The green mango trade is a good one if you have the right fruit it seems.

Probably is the most dwarf cultivar of mangoes. My grafted trees are only 2 feet high. It winter it survived at 35F without problems whereas other mangoes started to lose leaves.

It could be different, I was going by thai's telling me , Sam the guy that worked at the tree house did say it was different, he told me mine was far better than tree houses and I chalked it up to others inexperience in picking fruit.

When you peel falan you can hear the thunder, it really makes noise.
