Fall colors in San Diego
« on: September 27, 2014, 03:53:40 PM »
Just walked outside and grabbed a few fruit... and then snapped a picture.  The red, green and yellow is a sure sign of fall.

(clockwise from top: yellow lemon guava, manila mango, frederick passion fruit, granny smith apple, nazemetz feijoa)

Thanks Simon & Gary - I don't think I have a very discerning mango palette... It tastes GREAT to me, lol.  It's better than any of the store bought mangos I've had. Part of that is of course to picking and eating it at the right time.  Part of that is probably also due to the fact that I grew it (owner bias).  But I like it better than my Haden.

Disclaimer: I've never had any of the Zills/top tier mangos to compare it to ;)

I'll try to take some tasting notes when I eat the next one that will be more descriptive than just "really good"

Okay, here goes my first attempt at mango tasting notes...

Aroma: "Tropical", Could tell there was a ripe fruit in the room and that it should be eaten.

Texture: Firm, juicy.

Flavor: Very sweet, almost syruppy, with a hint of acidity nearest skin, reminiscent of pineapple - but not pineapple.

Overall: Delicious.
