Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Wax apples
« on: April 08, 2018, 06:59:24 PM »
My young wax jambu dropped 75% of the leaves this past Winter, and new baby leaves are very slow to grow, compared to in the past. So, how much watering do you give your tree? I don't want to miss current season's bloom...

My green wax jambu also dropped 90% of the leaves. When the new sprout leaves popped out a week later they get dried and became dead. Did a scratch test, front side of the trunk is black while the back side cambium layer is still green.

This is dieback? I cut it down the trunk and no new growth. I think its dead.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / wax jambu in san diego?
« on: December 27, 2017, 03:51:30 PM »
Still new to growing wax jambu. Is it normal for wax jambu tree to lose its leaves in the winter in San Diego? Leaves turned brown before falling off.

My green jambu tree (4 feet height) in the ground in its first winter.

It's gotten cold (26 to 33 F) in San Diego so far.

Do you know if the star fruit trees are strong meaning the tree is still alive even if the leaves are dried up? I'm planning to wait until spring and then put it in the ground.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Kari star fruit question
« on: December 11, 2017, 11:48:25 PM »
I bought a 15 gallon kari star fruit around thanksgiving. I put the tree outside in san diego weather and i noticed the leaves are starting to turn yellow and have dried up.

Do star fruit trees lose their leaves in winter?

I had to move the pot and tree inside the garage during the strong santa ana winds. The tree did experience the wind for some times. Could that also caused the leaves to dried up?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Identify Mango variety

Looking at base of the trunk closely I didn't see the graft line so it must be from a seedling. This tree was planted in the ground within 6 months. My uncle said he already tasted the fruits.
