Eating Jackfruit Seeds for the First Time
« on: July 09, 2019, 08:30:02 PM »
I boiled about 75 seeds for 30 minutes. These things were DELICIOUS! Oh how many seeds I’ve wasted over the years !!  >:(

Yup they are tasty.  I tried microwaving them once like I do for potatoes and they exploded pretty spectacularly.

Did they taste like chestnuts as some say?

They taste like a cross between a white bean and a potato, with a little bit of sweetness to it. Reminds me a little bit of breadfruit. They were excellent. I housed like 25 of them in a matter of minutes.

We get the skins off after boiling them and process into hummus with olive oil and garlic.

Great if not the greatest multi useful fruit.  Can cook it immature/ unripe , or wait until it’s ripe , can eat the seeds. In India they make many different dishes using jack. The only other “fruit” I can think of that is as multi useful if not more is the coconut

Never really cared for them by themselves, but that sounds awesome.  :o

delicious, also Champada seed is very good too, the segmented fruit is dipped in thick batter and deep fat fried, very good.

Jackfruit the double seed shell can be tricky, but I'm sure there is a trick to remove quickly.

Jackfruit outer skin is hard to remove. Much easier, because no tough outer layer, and just as tasty are the breadnut seeds (Artocarpus camansi). But all the artocarpus seeds are edible and quite tasty. Also high in protein.

I ate the seeds all these years.  They are great with that nutty taste.  I bought a 25lbs. jackfruit last week for about $13.00!
The trick to have an easy peel seed shell is to add a dash of salt to the pot while boiling them.
