South Florida people, are you starting to pick your Keitt mangos? And by the way, is it pronounced "kit" or "keet?"

Been picking them for a couple weeks now. Pronounced "kit".

Mine ripened in June. My father picked his a month ago, still hard. He gave me some and they ripend well. I have heard from most kit is the right pronunciation.

My friend, who lives in Coconut Creek, brought me 2 bags full the other day. They're all green and hard, but most are yellow at the stem end or have a little blush . He insists on calling them "keets" or "keeths" even though I've told him that all the old-timers say "kit." He also calls PPK "lemon merin-gay." :)

Something seems a bit off with this statement. I have never seen, nor heard of, Keitts in SFla being harvested mature in June.

I thought so too, that I had bought a mislabeled tree, but I went to F & S Park mid June and their Keitt had ripening fruit too. I had around ten, 3 of them tree ripened, 3 were eaten by birds and squirrels, and the rest I picked before tree ripening. When I googled it, I found post a by marinfla in June 2011 on gardenweb about eating mangos visually identified by squam256 as keitts and hmhausman saying that all his late season mangos were already mature.

I have eaten a glenn in late April from my tree. I have read posts from Harry about his mango trees blooming in October.

The biggest mango I weighed from that June 2011 season was just a bit over 4 lbs!

This season was so affected by the mild winter and incredible amounts of rain this spring.
The SAME Keitt tree mentioned in that Gardenweb post above did not mature and ripen it's fruit until the end of July this year. (acting more more Keitt-ish)
I guess all things are possible.

A few Keitt, kit, tree-ripened at Truly Tropical in late July, but those ripening now taste much richer. We expect to have Keitt through late August or early September.

Here at Enseys grove on Merritt Island, we are still into Kents with some Keitts and Brooks starting to show.

Nope...I'm still waiting for the few Keitts I have to ripen...they are still VERY hard with a little bit of color on the ones that get a couple of hours of full sun.
I'm SO afraid that Critters will get them, but at the same time I don't want to pick them before they're ready and not ripen properly.
What to do what to do? :-\

I have seen Kietts here in June also, but suspect that this is because some plantations stimulate flowering with KNO3, so that they produce at that time.
at the moment seems we are at peak Kiett season here, they are being sold all over the place.
but this year seems off anyway in regards to mango ripening times. I bet I will still see Keitts this year way into Oct. and maybe even into Nov.

Well, he was born in Mexico so his mother tongue is Spanish. Anyway, I can't teach him nuthin! :P
