Mine ripened in June. My father picked his a month ago, still hard. He gave me some and they ripend well. I have heard from most kit is the right pronunciation.
He insists on calling them "keets" or "keeths" even though I've told him that all the old-timers say "kit." He also calls PPK "lemon merin-gay."
