Marlys Zill has a tree, looks like it's been in ground for 10+ years

Julie is great when they're not store bought

54
yeah and fiberless mangos won't survive a minor fall so if they're where you can't see them you'll end up with lots of wasted fruit

people prefer what they grew up with, so it's boring fruit or nothing at all

that's about the height I pug my trees to, you'll be fine

don't know about ripeness but I know putting hot sauce on your mangos is a good way to deter animals

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Location for Rollinia/Biriba tree
« on: June 16, 2019, 06:12:36 PM »
rollinias need consistent water, mine grew 14 feet and fruited after a year in the ground most likely because I planted it 2 feet from a canal where the soil is constantly wet and smells anaerobic. In the winter when the water line receded it defoliated but when I started watering it every day the leaves grew back fast and it didn't defoliate in 40 degree weather.

I usually go with some for a few

62
inside a container I'd only go for pickering maybe honey kiss

63
So which are you planning to get?  Sugar Loaf and why?  I'm having similar dilemmas picking out here in hawaii.  Thanks!

if I didn't get sugar loaf I would've gotten an m-4

sugar loaf seems to be spreading and fairly disease resistant like a honey kiss, plus it's a green mango which will deter thieves a bit

I forget which one the red is but

https://hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/jaboticabas.html

Jaboticaba trees are slow-growing, in M. tenella, shrubby, 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 ft (1-1.35 m) high; in M. trunciflora, 13 to 23 or rarely 40 ft (4-7 or 12 m); in the other species usually reaching 35 to 40 ft (10.5-12 m). They are profusely branched, beginning close to the ground and slanting upward and outward so that the dense, rounded crown may attain an ultimate spread of 45 ft (13.7 m).

I am in cali and really want to grow a Honey Kiss. Seems like nobody sell it here, and online only Plantogram has it for $119 non including shipping fee. By I read some bad reviews about Plantogram including the variety not true to the name.
Does anyone know where to buy honey kiss here or who will be able to ship it here?

Thanks in advance

contact pine island nursery in homestead, they're certified to ship to california

Having worked in PC research and development most of my adult life at IBM AND a RAID systems designer for HDD redundancy , I can say that HDD's can fail and lose data, some or all of it.  Also data recovery and computer repair are two completely different disciplines! Data recovery is Faaarrr more tedious, AND much more expensive.

"First thing computer repair people here do is make a complete backup of the hard drive, so nothing is lost"

And if the HDD has crashed? No recovery may be possible, Luc was lucky to get some files back.

Techs may be able to recover data but it ALWAYS 100% the responsibility of the owner to have backups, EVERY DAY!

Failing to do so and blaming a tech is completely unreasonable AND unfair.

The OP said: "I lost lots of files"

Note, not ALL, it's pretty clear the tech made a backup of what was left no?

A backup to a 128-256 gig memory stick that may cost a hundred bucks would have prevented it. Sorry for your loss but learn from it... Owner's fault, end of story.

as someone who's had the misfortune of working customer service I understand your frustration, but let's try to focus on the possibly new species instead of our PTSD

someone correct me if I'm wrong but from what I've gathered:

E-4 sugar loaf: pineapple/coconut flavor, green mango, mid season, slow growing spreading habit, not sure about disease resistance yet

orange essence: citrus, yellow mango, mid season, vigorous upright habit, leaves get a lot of mold during the winter but no other problems

honey kiss: traditional, red mango, slow growing spreading habit, good disease resistance

shade is good for most plants, you'll have to water less but wait longer for growth

anyone else with a honey kiss know when it'll ripen?

When I got mine a couple years back I was told it is a very late season mango. Mine has good fruit set this year but no signs of ready as of yet. From my understanding August, September and possibly October if you are lucky with some late fruit hanging on. By then my pickering, PPK, Fairchild and CC will be done with fruit will be nice to know one tree will possibly hold late.

good to know, mine is still small and it's the first year fruiting so I'm not sure what to expect. The fruit is small and already has some red on it

73
That should be Creme Brulee (and Sugarloaf if you want to get technical).  If grown closer to the coast, E4 (I am refusing to use Sugarloaf as its flavor base is not pineapple) will pick up some yellow coloration.

how'd this yellow one taste?

For pure coconut flavor people seem to think M4 is a better choice, E4 is coconut/pineapple so it's got some acidity to it
