I tried to leave my two Makok in pots but they weren't happy at all. Now that they're in the ground they always have fruit  on them.

Nice!

I had a bunch of Makoks in 15 gal pots they fruited so heavy I let much of the fruit go to waste

I sold all of them, and I kept one tree...it stayed so much smaller than the others, I wonder why?  Maybe the rootstock?

The other makoks grew twice as fast.

That's encouraging folks. How large are your trees?

Adam not sure but this is the Makok I got from you about 3 years ago and it has stayed dwarf and still looks happy in the container.

I really like all of the pictures.  I have an Alano sapodilla in a pot.  The tree looks healthy and puts out green leaves and flowers for the past 3 years without one fruit setting.  Maybe I should get a Makok as well, based on the experience and testimony of the responses here.

Makok is probably the best suited for pot culture. Silas also produced very well for me in a 25gal pot (over well over 100 fruits).

One of my favorite things about Makok is the fruit size. Since I am the only one at my house that eats Sapodilla Makok is perfect size for one person. Just my opinion.

Thanks,

Ed

Very nice Ed, Congrats!!

I really like Makok. It's slow growing and therefore it's a great selection to grow in a pot. I think more people should try it in pots. Just keep those little baby fruit warm over winter and you'll be enjoying the fruit next year.

Alano is also doing well in a pot, however Tikal has been a struggle. It is really out growing the pot and I have to keep repotting it.

Enjoy!!

I tried to leave my two Makok in pots but they weren't happy at all. Now that they're in the ground they always have fruit  on them.

One thing I've noticed is that Sapodillas do love to have rich moist soils. So if grown in a pot, they do require rich soil with lots of organic matter and something that's well draining, as they like it moist, but not water logged. If you stay on top of watering them deeply and regularly, they will flower for you multiple times a year.
