My best pineapple season yet
« on: June 25, 2018, 12:05:05 AM »
I do not know if it's the rainy season / supplemental well water, my fertilization schedule or mulching or the better shading that my plants are experiencing but this year has been a SPECTACULAR year for my pineapples. Almost school bus orange inside,no acid, sweet and uniquely flavored.

How are you folks doing this year with them?

Beautiful Fruit Gary, what variety is it? My White Pineapples won’t be ready for about another 5 months. Pineapples are such fun fruit to grow.

Glad to hear your growing is going well.  I just started planting pineapples last year and  just harvested my 1st pineapple a week ago.  Golden like yours it was very sweet and zero acidity. I don't really know the variety but thinking maybe sugarloaf.  I do have a couple of MD-2 pineapples that are actively fruiting too.  Still a few months from ripe I think.  Several more plants that have yet to flower.

What fert and schedule you using on your pineapples?

Pic of mine and recent thread I started:

The ones i am eating are second generation tops from store bought. My Fla "soil" is actually pretty good sandy loamy brown / silver. I fert every month.  One thing 4sure I will never buy another pineapple again. Im going to double my pineapple garden from 15-20 plants to 40 or more. Friends appreciate them even more than other fruits or even a bottle of wine that I bring over.

You guys may want to try out a white fleshed variety like White Jade or White Sugarloaf. They are low acid and very sweet and the core is soft and completely edible.

Between the two, which do you prefer?

I have one or two White Jades planted.  Should have a Sugarloaf too though not sure if its the one I already harvested, was yellow and hard, small core though very sweet.  Also have an Elite gold but it's going very slow.

Honestly I lost track of the varieties of my pineapples.

I do plan on growing more though.  I started with about a dozen but want to double that.  Self-grown, they are that good.
