Title: Goji Berry Pruning
Post by: akanonui on July 14, 2016, 01:16:37 PM
I've had a Crimson Sweet goji berry now for about 3-4 years now. It has fruited for the past 2 years very sparsely. It is planted in semi shade in ground with regular soil enhanced with manure and compost. It has gone NUTS. It's growing all over the place without much reason. When is the best time to prune my goji berry and is there a shape/technique to use?

Prune it to the shape you want and try rooting the cuttings you pruned by putting them in the shade in moist soil and try to keep moist.

Can I do this now or is should I wait until it is dormant?

I pruned my goji-berry in July to keep it a bit smaller and not overgrow everything :D
It seemed like a good idea to me as it was smaller for like two days... then I saw around 6 new side shoots on every limb/branch I cut  ??? The plant is now at least twice the size than before I cut it :blank:
So if I were you I would wait to cut it until it gets dormant.
With kind regards,
Max

Do they like lots of water, and full sun?
Mine has hardly grown. I got a handful of fruits. Most of the leaves fell off, the branches have several new growth buds now, but they look pretty bare, not much leaves at all. They are in full, intense sun, mulch, and water daily.
Thanks,

When Goji starts growing you need to prune also in the Summer......so do it, you'll not have any problem.
