Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado for Florida Treasure Coast
« on: July 04, 2017, 06:52:01 PM »
I want to add another avocado to my yard . I live in zone9b. Currently I have three others: Lila, Day and Oro Negro. We have a problem in Florida with the ambrosia beetle killing avocados so I want to hedge my bet by having several. So far the Lula is the only one bearing but I find the fruit bland. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Slow grumichama
« on: June 25, 2017, 04:10:03 PM »
I bought a grumpy 4 years ago in a 7 gallon  container, since then I have tried to baby it but it grows little but does flower but only 6 fruits this year. Could it have been in the pot too long? And will it recover? I hate to dig it up but 4 years is a lot when you are 73 years old. Advice please. It is getting a lot of sun with a southern exposure, water, fertilizer, micro nutrients.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lisa atemoya and Grumichama cherry
« on: June 07, 2017, 05:57:54 PM »
I have a Lisa atemoya purchased from a local nursery and it is 3 years old. I have three small fruit for the first time, naturally pollinated but the tree looks more like a shrub than a tree. It has a central stem but it is only about 2 inches in diameter and it has 4 very long branches . It is nout 5 feet tall and just as wide. No central stem above the 4 branches that almost touch the ground. I m supporting it with ropes and stakes. It is mulched and gets regular weekly watering. Is this growth natural? Had lots of flowers in April and. Few now. How can I get more fruit. This is my first atemoya and don't know what to expect.

Mt grumichama is 4 years old and about 6 feet with two main branches but very few fruit, it gets regular water and fertilizer but vas very slow growth, suggestions to make it more vigorous please?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Dragon Fruit on the Treasure Coast
« on: September 12, 2014, 05:50:34 PM »
I moved into a house that had several large vines growing in oak trees, I successfully made cuttings and planted them in the ground on a ladder type trellis, they are blooming But no fruit. Is it too hot? I tried to polinate with brush on flowering about 6 weeks ago and just recently tried shaking them, lots of pollen but of 13 flowers on two 6 ft vines no fruit. Suggestions please. I do not know the variety.
