« on: August 04, 2018, 02:29:19 AM »
What would be an ideal potting soil mixture/buy for transplanting my red jaboticaba?

Thanks

It probably depends on how often it is going to get watered or rained on

The ideal substrate is a soil that at the same time has good drainage and retains moisture and that is something acidic, that is to say it has peat, jungle soil (vegetable soil with leaves and decomposed branches), manure, compost, garden soil, perlite or vermiculite.

I have had great success with an even parts mixture on peat, topsoil (I use the lowes timberline) and pine fines. It's the peat and pine fines help with the acidity, the pine fines help with drainage, and the topsoil and peat retain some moisture. It's an inexpensive mix when compared with something like promix, but it gets the job done.

Better to use 50% or less peat moss with sand of pumice as the rest of the mix, plants don’t like quickly decomposing stuff with their roots

Where do you get pine fines? Our wal-mart stopped carrying them.
