My yard hit low of the season 33 this morning. its lower than last year. Ouch, watchout for tropical plants, mangoes.

My north facing perimeter wall registered 27.9 F and SW facing wall registered 31.6 F around 5 am. Temp went up to 28.8 and 33.4 just now (7 am), hope it rises soon.

i swear the forcast yesterday wasn't so cold or I would have covered my mango trees. woke up at 5:30 and registered how cold it was and went out to find my budding mango trees covered in a layer of frost. i hosed them all down and am hoping for the best. Wont be suprised if I lose my small ones

Yeah very cold up here on Central Coast this morning 32F was long duration was 33F at midnight , well see how the plants liked it in a week or so. going to be cold tonight too!! burr!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw that on my weather app last night , so I closed my green house hopefully my small seedlings are ok. I will check on the rest of trees too.

Tonight might be even colder, a freeze warning was issued for inland empire and inland San Diego valleys from 10 pm to 9 am, yikes.

I had frost on my plants this morning. Another night of frost may kill some of my smaller grafted Mangos that are just starting to push. My pineapple leaves already got frozen back.

Hit my lowest temp of the year here to in NorCal.
We hit about 29 in the valley. Got all my baby mangoes inside monday night.

Very cold in Central Valley too. Forgot to cover a few things with what looks like just a bit of cosmetic damage.

33 degrees in Nipomo, no damage visible yet....on the flipside, we had poor plum, apple, and apricots last year as we really had no frost nor good chilling hours.

Only 31 in my yard this morning. Just bits of frost. No damage seen. January 4 was colder at 29.
Tonight is looking more dangerous though. I've put some blankets on baby avocados.
Love this winter so far. Good chill for the deciduous trees, no real damage on the subtropicals, plenty of rain.

Yup. Had a good layer of frost on the car. 32 at my place. Dodmt get a chance to see the mangoes. I saw seedling mamey with graft pushing that looks ok. I'm hoping that the collective goodness of the yard helped ward off some of the cold.
Behl any damage? My climate is probably closest to yours?

Snowcapped mountains are pretty typical in California — just not the peaks that got a dusting this week.
A series of storms has brought a rare wet winter to the state, sending snow levels plunging and creating some surreal scenes Californians won’t soon forget: a blanket of white covering vineyards in Napa Valley. Plows clearing California 17 between Santa Cruz and San Jose. Peaks in the San Francisco Bay Area with an alpine feel. Even San Francisco’s Twin Peaks got some snow.
The conditions highlight a season of storms that have left their mark from the Sierra Nevada range, where one-third of California’s water supply originates, to Los Angeles, which has endured six dry winters out of its last seven. It’s a welcome turn of events for a state still recovering from severe drought.
By Tuesday, it was almost becoming too much of a good thing.
In the Sierra, as much as 10 feet of snow kept several ski resort closed Tuesday. In Southern California, officials warned of snow levels dropping Wednesday to elevations as low as 2,000 feet above sea level, which could shut down sections of Interstates 5 and 15 as well as other mountain passes.
Big Bear and Wrightwood were poised to see as much as 3 to 4 inches of snowfall through Tuesday night, and up to 8 inches could fall at Mt. Laguna in San Diego County.
This latest series of storms comes around the midpoint of California’s wet season.
“This is shaping up to be a wet year,” said Chris Orrock, spokesman for the California Department of Water Resources, citing atmospheric-river events that gave the state a good three weeks of rain in January before a round of cold storms arrived at the start of February.

37 here last night. No frost anywhere to be seen. This is perfect weather to make peaches and other stone fruit POP.
And all the rain is going to clean out the soil and make an epic avocado year.

My place dogged a bullet tonight and was warmer than yesterday, low was 36.1 F in the SW corner.

We hit 30 here around 6am. lots of ice on stuff this morning but not quite as bad as last night.
Another 32 degree night expected tonight. that makes 3 nights in a row but it looks like our 32 and below temps are very short. (2 hours or so) I've yet to see any damage to my passion fruit but I did bring my mangos in side.

My Valencia Pride, Glenn, and Keo Savoy mango are all uncovered. They are happy as a clam. My nam wah banana looks miserable. However, my saba, ice cream, and hua moa banana are doing well. I am in your neck of the wood.

The past 3 nights my weather forecast has been 3-4 degrees off each day. Was supposed to be 33 tues and Wednesday, it was 29. Was supposed t be 35 yesterday, it was 32. Come on boys

The forecast here in Southern OC has been for high 30s multiple times this winter, including the last few days, but we're in a low spot and have hit between 33 and 35 probably 7 times this winter. Fortunately haven't gotten any days with obvious frost, but some of the ultra tropicals are looking sad despite being underneath bigger trees.

Hope you guys made it ok, I survived 2 winters in Temecula CA with Temps dipping down to 26.... I survived by frost cloth and Christmas lights!

I had some frost on my stuff, I get the impression they're taking it better year by year. I think it was in the upper thirties for two nights, then 31 or 32 the next two nights. I've noticed my Eugenia uniflora has had redder leaves all year, but especially now. I wonder if the cold causes it to produce more anthocyanins. It's a zill dark and I've read the dark-fruited ones have more anthocyanins in the plant just in general, but I don't think it was this red before. One of my two Eugenia sellois turned red in last winter's cold and hasn't turned back either, and the other looks remarkably healthy, aside from a few branches which seem to have aborted. Eugenia involucratas aren't showing any sign that it's even cold out. And my little grimal and red jabos are looking a bit worse for wear, aborting some branches too, but interestingly the new growth generally looks untouched. And I think my uniflora may have flower buds!

I like the atmospheric river. Its the best thing going. I hope we get another couple feet of rain.

Raining in the desert, this is great! SoCal looks like Ireland w the green rolling hills and Aspen w the snow capped sierras, stunning! With all the rain and colder nights unfortunately I loss all my early mango bloom hopefully we’ll get a second and third bloom in March and April.

a quick aside, so it looks like the new growth my trees are pushing are all blooms. Is this typical for time of year and can i expect vegitative growth at a different time of year? I know I got vegitative flushes at the end of summer but cant rememeber about spring.

Yes its going to be blooms in spring then late spring and summer will be leaf flush.

This is the 3rd winter for all my subtropicals and they are torn up. They survived the first 2 winters fine but this winter they look really bad even though I covered them.

At my home in the city, the mangoes and guavas don't look happy but they are still green. Luckily, a guy I gave some ST and CC budwood to last spring said he would give me a couple of young ST and CC trees that he's had in his greenhouse. Pays to be nice sometimes ;D If the mangoes I have now take off in the spring, I'm going to move them next to the house before it gets really hot.
The sapodillas and mangoes really surprised me. Seems like they took the winter worse than the tropical guavas. Most of the guavas defoiliated but none appear dead and green pretty far up.

Yeah, looks like Monday-Tuesday morning here to get down to 34F-36F but predictions close but usually were a few degrees colder. But more rain coming so that's great for us! 8)

How cold did u get waterf?
Not quite certain, I don't live on the property where the trees are at. Accuweather said 30-33(it's said 30 before though and I've temped out 27). But they've seen temp like this before and came out ok. I covered them this winter just like before. Difference is the the cold was followed by a week of rain and overcast skies so they were never able to warm up.

It snowed last night at my place which is rare, my weather station registered a low temp of 35.5F last night. No visible damages to the trees yet. Rest of week looks bad as well, low 30s and high 20s through Friday.

One of my mangoes sufffered aesthetic damage due to cold.
We have been getting Constant 3 weeks of low 30s & high 20s (27f) on several occassions.

Low of 33 hit right before sunrise. With no dew at all, there was no frost. Tomorrow morning and Friday mornings are expected to be below freezing in my area (Corona, CA). I am going to bubble wrap precious irreplaceable mango variety grafts.

Coldest night tonight, it snowed almost most parts of So Cal wherever we hit 32-34. It snowed at my house in Corona. Temp was 34 at 3 pm. Tomorrow morning sub 30 expected.

Thats cold. Saw some hail today but it didnt stick. It only dropped below 40F for a few hours here so far this year.

I got another two mornings of frost in the last two weeks and yesterday it hailed like crazy. I was outside shopping and everyone was running for cover because of how heavy the hail was coming down. All this wet weather is horrible for mango flowers but there’s is still time for a second or third bloom.

We hit 34... alot of snow around us in higher elevation.
This looks to be our last bit of cold nights before we get back in to 40's and 50's at night in the valley. (This matches historical last frost dates for us too)
About to get busy in the garden/yard!!!!

After getting low 30s less than a month, and several occasions of high 20s.. i think by feeding them organic fert specifically oyster shell & langbeinite helped them thrive through our harsh weather.
Im glad that we are starting to warm up for now.

You are hard core when you are taking pictures of (beloved) fruit trees at night. Me here in SE Florida....I am loving all the snows and (LA region got snowed on!) rains California is getting. The snow pack in your mountains will be flooding downward and filling up reservoirs.

I have read that if there is still frost advisory. Leave it as the dry leaves acts as a barrier or protection in case of frost event again.i i will take out once we get consistent 50 at night. This consistent cold weather is unpredictable.

My front yard is unprotected, out-in-the-open with no overstory trees. My lows are brief. If i get 8 hours of consistent low 20s. Most of my trees wud be dead by now.

Overheard "the weather guy" on T.V this morning going on and on about it being the coldest February in L.A in 141 measured February's. Never since weather has been tracked in L.A has it NOT hit 70 degrees in February. He didn't mention all-time low etc. Only temps for the whole month.

This was a brutal year.
Pretty much everything not up against structure suffered greatly or died
All 11 of my planted guamuchil trees including 2 that were 12-13 feet have not come back and appear dead.
I have 5 sapodillas 1 Morena, 1 Alano, 3 Hasya. This is their 3rd winter and all are close to structure except for the Morena. The Morena, and 2 Hasya appear dead. The Alano and one Hasya barely survived with lots of dieback. Very disappointed in their frost tolerance.
All the mangoes up against structure survived. A sweet tart died, another sweet tart plus a coco cream has died down to the graft but they are already shooting up new growth from the base. A 4 year old LZ completely defoiliated and had dieback 2 to 3 feet from top but is already bursting with new growth.
2 of the 4 12ft+ Moringas appear dead. The other 2 are rapidly shooting out growth a couple of feet from their base.
The white sapote not up against structure defoiliated but are already bursting with growth.
2 of the 4 passion fruit vines are dead. The other 2 exploding with new growth now.
A small ice cream bean tree is dead. The 2 up against structure survived but are slowly growing back.
Dragon fruits under tree didn't fare that bad
Bananas damaged but are already coming back
The Australian finger lime and feijoas completely unaffected
A mamey sapote up against structure also looks unaffected, surprisingly didn't lose a single leaf.
I have over a dozen white and pink guavas. Not a single one died including one out in the open that has a trunk the thickness of my pinkie. They defoiliated but all are now bursting with new growth.

That's up against a wall. My trees up against structure fared much better than my tree out in the open.

I dont think these are coming back. The biggest guamuchil only has green 6 inches up. The rest of them appear graveyard dead all the way down. There are big guamuchils here everywhere, so I figured they were gtg in this area including a huge tree 200 meters away but even that one looks like it took some damage this winter. Supposedly our low was only 28 degrees. Weird how every guava toughed it out with non losing more than 30% of their limbs but these guamuchils which I thought were tough succumbed. I think it was the week of wet overcast weather we had immediately following our frosts.

I have tons of replacement seedlings from bigger and better fruits but I just wanted them for shade and wind protection. Oh well my project will take a 2 year set back. :-\

Nice. Sorry, when I said out in the open I meant like in ranch acreage "out in the open". Tens of meters away from any house, building, wall or large tree. I have some 5-8' guamuchils in containers up against a barn. Looks like they mostly all survived except for their tops. All my mangoes and guavas 15 miles away at my home in the city did just fine, they didn't even defoiliate, the leaves just look a little beat up on top, and purple in the case of the guavas.

Hi W.F we had the same thing here in Tampa Two Winters ago and last year I dint even get a single Mango, or Anonnas R. this year everything is back with a vengeance.

It’s like a baby hurricane without the rain. Had to go tie up one of my young Manila mangos that got loose from its stake and bent all the way to the floor.

One of my guava was ripped from its stake. We hit 30mph here. Been fairly warm though
