« on: September 03, 2019, 10:02:20 AM »
Has anyone in florida noticed a whitefly explosion on new growth of annona? A very narrow winged whitefly.

Yes, also on new mango flushes. Long legged flies have moved in and seem to be dramatically lowering their populations. I am in Stuart, Florida. The only place I have found them reproducing is on sugar apple. They also hit jackfruit. I first noticed them on sweet potato, it was so bad I ripped them all out. It may be sweet potato whitefly.

Yes, I think I saw it on my pepper plants. Very tiny white flies. Surprisingly guavas do not attract them. I’m in Jupiter

Been fighting them on my guava for 2 years now and can’t seem to win. Have a sugar apple about 40 feet away and no signs of them, nor on any of my other 20 fruit trees.

I just got an email from my local inspector.
They took some samples from my sugar apple.
They always seem to have half brown/black leaves in at least 3 locations in western Coral Springs.

They confirmed its a type of white fly (Paraleyrodes bondari)

The state inspector never did get back with me.I think he was having health issues.I wonder if it was same white fly as the one you have.

This may not help you if your grove is too big but a lady at the local
garden club mentioned that she has been applying worm compost tea
to her plants and the white fly disappeared? She said the flies were real
dense before? Could some beneficial micro organisms eat the larva or eggs?

At one point when I was trying to rid the Sir Lankan weevil the Ag extension
director told me to try a nematode called Steinernema sp. under the plants.
It didn't get rid of the weevil but I swear the fire ants disappeared for a Summer?
