Organic fruit tree fertilizer for containers
« on: September 04, 2019, 02:10:02 AM »
What do you all recommend? Looking for something higher in Nitrogen to promote vigorous growth. We have been using neem cake for 6-1-2, and a happy frog product for 6-4-5 and are happy with those but looking for other options, preferably less expensive. Thanks!

EB stone and fox farms both have organic 7-3-3 avocado food.  And theres fish emulsion 5-1-1.

None of it is going to be cheap especially if you are having it shipped to HI.

For long term, compile your own compost piles.  Doesn't get cheaper than that.

Worm compost.
Aged chicken manure, best what comes from laying hens rather than meat birds.

I also use worm castings from my worm compost bin, but I didn't recommend it because he specifically wanted something high in N.

I have used Dr Earth natural solid fertilizers with good success, it's not cheap.
I have used Fox Farm liquid nutrients with admirable success, very expensive.
I have used worm castings, I didn't see a huge growth flush, and sort of expensive.
I have used chicken manure, cheap as S*it, and works great. This one really makes them go, and at $6 a bag it's hard to ignore. It does smell bad for a week or so though.

Urine has 10-1-1 .I use that in my orchards thogh not for potted trees.Needs to be diluted 10:1 .Has a little salt in it but thats not a problem because over time the humic acid will neutralise the salt.
Second option its urea fertiliser ,non explosive one not urea nitrate ( this is explosible half the power of TNT).It has like 40-0-0 but its not organic( meaning its not bio).
I only need to add nitrogen fertiliser for my trees, the Pand K are easy to get from.dead vegetation, leaves, grass clippings ,etc.
