Anybody growing jackfruit in container?
« on: August 10, 2018, 06:29:52 PM »
Hi,

I know jackfruit grow easily in south FL, but here in central CA it's not. I've seen fruiting jacks in southern CA, but I'm not expecting that. I like the tree shape and foliage and will move it indoor in the winter and hopefully keep it happy that way. Then I ran across this website that implies fruiting is possible in a container. Is it? Has anyone seen a fruiting jack in a pot? Below is a photo of mine.
Thanks,

Here in SFla it will definitely fruit in a pot.  Will need to be a rather large pot, basically 100 - 300gal but I have seen stunted/stressed trees fruit a runt fruit in 15 and 25 gal pots (fruit was mostly rag).

Stick it in the ground next Spring, back where you had bananas growing. If you give it winter protection, you will get a prettier tree and better chance of fruit.

If that's the case, might as well do it now instead of waiting until next spring.

I have one out by the pool that, up to now, only has had male flowers...maybe 8 so far. I have a seedling in a "rootmaker pot" that I will pop in the ground since its much more vigorous than the one I have thats flowering. Chris
