Male  plants(seeds) outnumber female plants by a large percentage.

I grow mine in the hothouse for all year round fruit too. If they get too tall I marcot mine and replant the top for lower setting fruit.

Same, sent many, some parcels have taken more than a month to Mexico and India, but did arrive. Only seeds in my case.
I use Fytocell as a packing medium, it's inert, holds water well and has got the seeds to their long destination germinated and viable.

The jam is awesome. I  bought some davidson plum and macadamia jam. Yum. Very sour raw though.
Yes I will have enough to make some jam this year, I saw some at TFW on the Gold Coast a few months ago and forgot to grab a bottle on the way out.
Any big deal on the black Turmeric? I have the red and orange varieties.

Apparently it makes an excellent jam, Don. Never tried it myself, but going to make some when the fruit matures. I've been doing nothing with the fruit also, far too sour for eating out of hand. Mind you, I did try, got half way through one and that was enough.

Is it true that it is dioecious ?

Yes they are. I read some anecdotal notes that you can tell by the colour of the leaf bracts, red is one gender, white is the other. Don't know how true it is.

let me know if you find any and I'll put my order in.

Are you selling Ziziphus Celata seeds? or I think they call it Florida jujube. Apparently a rare native of Florida. Would like to know more about this species.

Just located the member from whom I sourced the white Panama berry seeds from in Oct 2014:
micah, he hails from Waipio Valley, Hawaii, USA.
It'd be great to get some more.

I fluked a cutting once and once only, but I'm led to believe they are propagated by cutting, probably under heat and mist and the cutting would have to be just at the right maturity. My mail order nursery has no problems propagating them, but I don't know how. The two white seedlings I have (9ft tall) are two years old from seed and no sign of flowers. I ordered them from  Hawaii I think, not 100% sure. We are entering spring here and I'm hoping like mad it'll flower and fruit this year. Someone on here said the white are more cold tolerant than the red variety, I have no personal experience with that just yet.

I bought some seeds of a white variety from Hawaii a couple of years ago, the tree is now over 9ft and hasn't fruited yet.

Pics pf the fruit and tree? Ty
Sure, I'll take some pics as soon as I can, not getting home before dark most days, but the tree looks identical to the red variety. I'm hoping for some flowers this year. I think the seeds originally came from Hawaii.

There is an Australian arm of Incredible Edibles so no doubt there will be a good chance of seeing it in your local Bunnies store in the near future.

If you are only wanting to produce fruit for your family and maybe give some away and you're tight on space, pack them in. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule for backardies.  Different story  if you are a farmer, and want the biggest possible yields.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Can Ross sapote be air layered?

Is the best time to graft Spring through to early summer when the sap is flowing? then maybe late summer/autumn? As you would if you were taking marcotts? I'm going to give it a go, I have only one seedling Ross sapote and would like more.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Seeds from giant Rollinia
« on: August 08, 2016, 09:53:32 PM »
Has anyone ever grew seeds from those fruits to fruiting?  Any change in # of years to fruit?  If so, how many years?  Anyone tried these in a container?  Think a 30 gallon/half 55 gallon drum would suffice?  Just the size and weight of the fruit make me wonder if fruiting in a container would be more difficult compared to the typical Rollinia or maybe the tree would just require another year or two?  Hope I'm not being too noobish but still new to some of this.  Thanks
I can see seven small fruit on my potted seedling Rollinia right now. This is it's third year from seed, always been in a pot. I'll take a pic if interested. The pot measures 18inches across, I think, will confirm if interested. By the way, all my polyhouse potted plants are in a hydroponic (soil-less) culture.

Those trees look awesome, thanks for sharing! Have either fruited yet? That last one is a reticulata, not diversifolia.

Sorry, meant reticulata, it flowered last year, expecting fruit this year. Also expecting  a grafted Soursop to flower soon.

More pot culture but  off topic, Papaya doing well also.

This is the A. diversifolia you saw but upsized the pot around a year ago. I've not long pruned a third off of the canopy to keep it manageable in the polyhouse. Should've pruned that lower branch off as well.

Yes, nutrient has not changed. At least one pic has uploaded so far, this is a Soursop seedling overdue for upsizing.

Here's that thread I mentioned earlier, looks like it was a custard apple in a 3gal pot, and it doesn't look like it was growing into the ground the best I can tell. http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=14385.msg194694#msg194694

The Annona in the pot is legit, no roots have escaped under my watch, it's been id'd as A. reticulata and flowered last year.  Almost everything in the polyhouse is grown  in hydroponic cultures of differing methods. I can get much more tree bulk and faster growth over growing in soil based mixes. Now trialing Soursop, Rollinia, Gacinia's, papaya, amongst others.
Pictured are a seedling soursop and the A. diversifolia seen in previous posts, only this time in an upsized pot.
Pics won't upload.

Faster growth? if they are in an enclosed poly-house,  as well as longer light intervals, look up artificially raising the Co2 levels.   http://www.quickgrow.com/gardening_articles/co2_enrichment.html
