Woodchips from chainsaw
« on: March 06, 2020, 03:21:32 AM »
I just used somme woodchips from the chainsaw cutting firewood to add as a mulch in my pots.
The problem is these woodchips have a smell of smoke/ exhaust and they probably have bar oil on them too.
Are they good or should i get rid of them?

I wouldn't use chips with regular bar oil for chain saws. But you can put vegetable oil into your chainsaw bar, will cut fine, and then you can use the chips with no problem.

Its possible that also has 2 stroke oil from the exhaust.
I took it out.
And instead of bar oil or cooking oil i just use regular burned motor oil.
Thx for advice.

I’ve used them before with no issue. The amount of oil involved is not much and it will act as repellent while it degrades.
Don’t rush, take time and enjoy life and food.

They will eat your nitrogen and not allow pots to breath.

Should be ok as long as it's truly just mulch on the top, not mixed into the potting soil/medium.
