there is no significant new growth on my in ground citruses either. It seems that only redblush grapefruit likes these temperatures, because it is growing very fast. However star ruby, which should be happy on this weather stopped its growth. I guess most citrus trees are waiting for lower temperatures to start new growth. Dalmatian city of Split has experienced over 50 hot days in the row  (max daily over 30C).

this is hottest summer ever recorded in Dalmatia, just across Italy. I guess Italy is no better.

that is why i am so beautiful.

Pankrazio, natzumikan is japanese sort of white grapefuit, some say it is shadock which is, as i understand, some kind of grapefruit.
It is not cross with poncirus, but usually is grafted on to poncirus.

I have been there in 2012. I remember many citrus orchards around Santiago. Wine is number 1, but citrus industry is on the rise lately.

Most amazing for me was citrus collection in palace carnoles garden. Kumquat trees reach 6 meters in height. I thougt they can grow only 2 meters high.

maybe there is such lime, but the taste would probably not match the taste of persian or mexican lime.

how hardy is volkamer lemon as rootstock? My star ruby is grafted onto volkamer. Can it survive without defoliating -2 which has lasted for at least 10 hours ?

Citrus General Discussion / Re: meyer lemons
« on: January 21, 2015, 05:48:59 AM »
I had to cut my tree down as it is a magnet for fruit fly here. I had to plant real lemons as the flies won't attack a true lemon, but will happily live off Meyers all winter. 😞 I heard the variegated version doesn't grt attacked though, but it isn't very vigorous or productive. Has anyone tried it?

Strange. Fruit flies do not usually attack meyers. Here, they attack only tangerines. Last september flies infected and destroyed whole crop of my 2 tangerines, but they did not touch meyers, which were present in much bigger numbers.

Yes. I closed the balcony in december, so i don,t need to move them inside like i did last years. They used to loose all leaves inside during winter.

This october we picked  over 100 kg on our 2 trees.  I squized most of them into ice cube bags and put it in deep freezer.

Here in Europe we also have few such years to remember: 1928, 1963 and 1985.  1928 was coldest, but we did not have citrus groves back then in ex Yugoslavia. However in 1985 long term freeze killed 90 % of lemons and oranges. Since then one grows only mandarins for commercial use.

75
It seems to me that freezes like one from 1984 are no longer possible, because of global warming. At least i hope so.
