First Golden Nugget Jackfruit, (Is it ready?)
« on: July 31, 2018, 11:46:46 PM »
I went out today and noticed my first and largest Jackfruit had fallen. I was wondering if this is the right size and color for a ripe "Golden Nugget"? I't's been on the tree over a year, and in California.

Nice Mark.  Is your tree out in full exposure?

Nice Mark.  Is your tree out in full exposure?
Yes, it’s in full sun and been in the ground maybe 5 years

That’s awesome to see Mark.
Looked up your climate and while your averages aren’t too cold, you don’t have a heap of warmth either. Good going!

Is this cultivar known for doing well there? I have recently realised there can be some real differences with cold tolerances between jacks.

This winter into summer in SoCal has been above average temps and much higher humidity. It does not surprise me a jackfruit in San Diego fruits to harvest this year. It would be interesting to see how it crops next year if the temps and humidity are more inline with multi decade averages.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Here is a photo of the opened Golden Nugget jackfruit from here in southern California. I think it fell off the tree a bit soon. There weren't very many mature seeds. The edible flesh was nice and sweet.

That looks pretty good.  Amazing it's from California.
