Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / WTB Oroblanco
« on: April 15, 2021, 02:18:35 PM »
Need some scionwood for Oroblanco.

I can buy or trade.  Either is fine for me.

Please, none of that young, fresh green tissue.  Needs to have lignification.

Thank you.

Kaz, on the fruits you're sending to folks, make sure you leave them on their cluster like you would grapes or tomatoes.   They last far longer and survive the transit.  If you remove the fruits individually, they will spoil within 2-3 days without refrigeration.  You were probably already doing this knowing you, but thought I'd make an honorable mention after sending the fruits around in numerous ways and seeing what worked best.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Re: The Official "Blueberry Tree" thread.

Actually, I highly suspect that this is a Rabbit Eye blueberry.

Yes, you are correct.  Back when I first wrote this, I typically called any rabbiteye or highbush either a northern highbush or Southern highbush.  However, to be specific, I have since learned that rabbiteyes are merely a different type.  Which is even more intriguing, as rabbiteyes are not known to be self-fruitful like this one.

So, even better that this one is self-fruitful, and from the looks of it, it's seedlings are proving to keep the same resilience and growth habits.

I will be adding some updated photos of ones I'm growing in containers and how much intentional stress I've put some through.  These suckers are tough.

The 'Blueberry Tree' lives, folks.

I have a handful of nicely sized 6'-7' barked up specimens which I am currently propagating at our new Storefront.

Can't wait to make this available after all the years of efforts which have been invested to keep it alive.

Hi VG,
I have a pretty good selection of various 4-6 inch seedlings planted last year now growing in 4-inch pots... was planning on trying to offload a few here and on Ebay.
They are just starting to leaf-out again.
Na Dai
Green
Red... and several others I can't remember right now.
They may be smaller than what you are looking for at this time... but they will get bigger.
Plus... I'm right down the road in T-Town... so shipping is pretty economical.
I'll stay in touch and post something here soon.

Kevin

Where in 'Bamer are you?

Too bad you aren't closer to me. I could give you my large cherimoya tree (6" trunk) that I'm digging up since its to close to my block wall.

Dang, if you were able to reduce it to a log which could fit in a 10x10x90 or less, I might just consider that.  I can make the shipping label.  I could send you the boxes too.  That's be perfect for the display.

Anyone looking to get rid of some annonas?

I'm needing to get some of any kind worthy to be grafted to.

Trying to get some displayed at our store and it needs to be large enough to add 3-5 varieties on.  Thanks.

33
I am looking for loquat seeds of any named variety.

The below varieties are preferred:

- Angelino
- Champaign
- Michael (MPJ-4)
- Sunset
- Peluche

Thanks!

The polar vortex was mean to our harvest this year.

I have newly germinated seedlings of these, but seeds won't be available until next season.

I want to say we have a lot of Bradenton incoming, and Kaz is making seeds available for a number of varieties this year.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Is anyone's Persimmon in bloom

All of mine are loaded.  Going to be a big harvest this go around.

I also have doubts if a rooted jackfruit cutting will be able to survive, develop and adequately sustain and support the tree.

This is exactly what I was thinking.

Also, many of the experimental attempts I've made rooting certain trees which don't normally do well from cuttings would result in root-like nodes like those, but they'd never develop beyond that.

Looking to add some excellent varieties of pitaya to our Nursery and checking to see if someone has some cuttings avaliable.

I'm only interested if you've actually gotten fruit and authenticated your varieties.  No guess work please.

37
Yeah, it could just be a simple education thing.  Perhaps he's not sure what kind of wood he needs to cut and is just taking random cuttings.

Whatever the case, I hope he makes it right.  Word travels fast in our tight community.

38
Have any of you contacted him and gave him a chance to make it right before going public?

I know if anyone is dissatisfied with scions I send for any reason, they'll get new ones on the spot.

Anyhow, just checking.  I don't recall if I ever bought from this seller or not.

Sometimes someone sends me little scrawny things, but I don't know that I've ever complained on anyone yet.  One guy on Facebook sent me totally rotten seeds, so I do know I ended my Facebook shopping that day.  😅

Are you shipping, or is this pickup only?
please see the original post, it is explained there which plants can be shipped.

Think I got distracted while sifting through the trees and completely missed that part.  Nm.  Thanks.

For the record, so far I have been impressed with the Yangmei varieties I've tried.  Definitely worth having this tree if you have the budget and space for them.

1 Gallon Size is Back in Stock.

Future billionaire!

If only every penny didn't get invested back into it for inventory and startup.   ;D

I just read through your info relative to your Loquat efforts and also have seen that you are adding other tropicals, etc.  The information about the plants along with the availability is vast and extremely well written, not to mention all the incredibly great reviews you are receiving.

While my interests are geared towards Mango trees and I am far to old to look into growing Loquats, you have really come close to tempting me.  At 73 and with deteriorating health I am saying to myself, I only wish I could be assured of having several more years remaining of adequate health to be able to try Loquats knowing I could enjoy the fruits of my planting labors for them.

I just had to write and commend you on your obvious long and very well thought out plans.  YOU ARE DESTINED TO BECOME THE AMAZON OF THE TROPICAL FRUIT AND TREE INDUSTRY AND I WISH YOU THE BEST OF SUCCESS IN ACCOMPLISHING THIS DREAM!!

Thank you so much for these wonderful words and encouragement!  The project has been an undertaking and cost me far more than I anticipated.  Hopefully the Storefront pays for itself soon.

Also, I think you will be very thrilled to try some of the improved loquat varieties.  They are quite a step above a street-quat.

I don't know about becoming an Amazon, but I did add the following fruit trees to our custom built multi-grafted repertoire:

Loquat (of course)
Apple
Pear (Euro/Asian)
Mulberry
Stonefruits (Peach, Plum, Apricot, Nectarine/Cherry/etc)
Blueberry
Fig
Persimmon
Citrus
Camelia
Roses
Nightshade Plants (Tomato/Pepper/Eggplant)

Coming soon will be Avocado, Mango, Jujube, Dragonfruit, Jaboticaba and some others.

Now, people have options.  I should have some similar posts for these other fruit types later.

45
Great service, product, & packaging even!  Greatly appreciate the bonuses as well.  Barely got them all grafted last night before the rain came in.  With all the attention to details, if I ever found myself in Alabama, I'd have to make a stop at your place just to see what you've done.

Very glad you are happy, and thank you for the complements.

We started painting this weekend, and now just need the fence up so the Storefront can open officially.  It has been quite the project, but it is almost here.  I just might be retiring from the medical field soon to venture into full agriculture and am loving the opportunity of such a transition.

I'll be thrilled if you ever get to come visit.  Hopefully by the time you get here, the place will be set up well enough to make it worth the trip.

Also, if you leave a review on Google, it would be very helpful for us locally.

Is anyone selling this in the USA? Please advise.

Thanks!

That would be Charlie Lucero.

He's on Facebook.

In a dense effort to work on improving Eriobotryas, I am seeking all known species of the family, including a very instrumental hybrid.

I have only found one Bronze Loquat, and it is at a nursery in California near Santa Rosa that doesn't ship.  If someone was willing to get it and ship it, I'd gladly pay and tip for the service.

That said, anyone having these trees, cuttings or seeds of any of these, please let me know.  Thank you.

BRONZE (Eriobotrya deflexa)
Eriobotrya bengalensis
Eriobotrya cavaleriei
Eriobotrya dubia
Eriobotrya elliptica
Eriobotrya fragrans
Eriobotrya henryi
Eriobotrya hookeriana
Eriobotrya malipoensis

i think about 2.5-3yr, but i lost track, so it could be older....

no it's just random chance, I've planted over 50 easy, and only one other flowered so soon, but it's 4x taller.

yes it's a seedling of anomaly, but i haven't had any of the others flower this soon, so small http://youtu.be/A-sKyEq2ga0

So, jokes aside, how old is the anomaly Jr?

Do anything experimental to help it induce, or just happen randomly?

Very nice find indeed.

Very nice.  Well, great to see those genetics carrying over.  Can't wait to see how this one turns out.

lol nobody cares anymore....it's all about those aroids now....

Aroids aren't too shabby in their own right.   ;D

true, are there any good aroid boards you can recommend?  I need something that's non-fruiting, that i can keep in the house and stare at.

For that, I'd go with Pothos.

At least then, when you cut the dangling pieces out of your way, and pull their roots out of your sink drains, they'll crawl across the floor and fill up any holes in the walls.

I mean, I'd watch that all day.
