« on: September 28, 2019, 05:00:38 PM »
Can anyone help me identify this tree? I saw it about 3 weeks ago during a visit to Nuremberg (Southern Germany). Please look at the Pictures:

Crataegus, hawthorn. The fruit is edible but really mild and its mostly groen as decorative tree of wild.
I have 2 on my property wich i protect them so the birds can eat the fruit during winter.

Thank you for helping finding out  the species.  I didn't know it also had Crataegus varieties with smoother leaf margins. I looked on Wiki according to your hint Crataegus, hawthorn and found the following image:

The Crataegus on my property are White Thorn (Crataegus laevigata) and have much slower leaves and mor darker red fruits.

This is Crataegus pedicellata, commonly grown in Germany and one of the tastiest hawthorns i know. I usually pick a couple pounds each year and can totally recomment it as a hardy alternative to azarole apple.
