Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Growing tips for the tamarind tree

Is your tree a seedling or an air layer?
This will influence the time before flowering.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Evaluation of Shipped Mango Tree
« on: January 04, 2024, 07:15:35 PM »
Would have been nice if it was at least mentioned when you ordered it.
Even if you ordered it online when it was shipped someone should have
called?
It looks great otherwise. If you keep it make sure you keep a good stake in it
until it heals over. It could be a weak area and a strong wind might snap it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Nematodes and Fruit trees
« on: December 28, 2023, 08:02:47 PM »
Root nematodes are abundant in Florida's sand.
If you mulch your trees and add organics it attracts a beneficial
nematode that helps keep the harmful nematodes in check.
I place a ring of mulch around my trees and I add coffee grounds,
cricket frass. fish emulsion and compost regularly.

56
Yea the bifenthrin is nasty stuff. I don't spray it on any flowering trees or
any fruit. It kills every insect I have put it on. I wouldn't prune now. I would
wait until after it's flushed out.

57
Bifenthrin is my go to for taking care of insects. It's the only thing I have found
that takes care of the Sri Lankan weevil.
I would get rid of the insects and hope the tree comes back in the Spring with a
new flush. I don't know the life cycle of Lace bugs but the weevils hatch and you
need to reapply in 30 days.

58
I was having some of the same issues with my E. Beaurepairana
I ended up moving it off the lanai that was getting 4 hours of filtered morning sun to
my porch which only gets indirect light. I also gave it chelated iron a couple times
and it looks better. I am going to up pot it to a 7 gallon and start giving it some
sunlight soon

59
upper 40's isn't an issue for sapodillas
I have a couple grafted younger trees in the ground and a large seedling
and they are still putting out new leaves. They usually go dormant in the Winter.
If it dies check the roots for nematode damage.
I like putting mulch around the base of my trees and add organics like
frass and coffee grounds to promote beneficial nematodes.

I’m in Martin County a little north of you. Mine in ground for 3 years is incredibly vigorous and over 15 feet tall, even after talking the top out. It produces 100s of fruits each year and most go to my chickens. It is ok at best in my opinion, much better avocados out there.

How much chicken manure are you giving that tree?

Forecast looks interesting next week.
54 degrees two nights in a row will be a shock
Then it's predicting only mid to lower 80's for highs going forward
Won't be long I'll be worried about the cold nights
