Real red flesh cucamelon or crazy hybrid?
« on: March 10, 2019, 05:25:31 AM »
Hi,
found this on a Borneo market.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-AB14QujFs4
Vendor calls it a cucumber but to me it looks more like a untypical cucamelon. But two of the fruit were reddish inside. Maybe a cucamelon hybrid with some crazy Asian vegetable? Please help id it.

Thank you, i never knew those could be eaten raw. I had read sth abot them being bitter. But it seems they are just like cucumbers.

The wild ones are bitter. While the cultivated varieties can be eaten raw or can be made into stir fries

I can recommend the raw ones i had in Borneo. Like a fancy cucumber. The ones in Java were more astringent.
