Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Shipping mango tree
« on: January 22, 2018, 10:52:18 PM »
Really depends on the size of the tree.  A one gallon would go in a U-Line cardboard box 6x6x48" and shipped USPS Priority Mail.  A large tree i.e., 250 gallons, would need to call R&L Carriesrs and ask them freight prices.

I have sent the Fraudster a letter requesting a full refund.  Legal
Action will be taken if he doesn't oblige.  He will be reported to eBay, PayPal and the United States Postal Service for mail fraud if a prompt refund isn't received.

Lives in a gated community, can't get in.

And, after selling the first tree or two via eBay, any other trees wanted, he declines your offer and contacts buyer outside of eBay and request that you pay him directly to his PayPal account, cutting eBay out of their percentage.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: History of Gary Mango
« on: June 07, 2017, 10:02:54 AM »
I've watched every single one of the Truly Tropical Videos on Mangos and they are all excellent. Extremely informative and I love how she breaks down the pros and cons. I especially like how she lists whether the mango is Mono or a Polyembryonic.

In this video, I believe Gary mentioned that the Pettigrew or its seed came from a collection from the west coast?

Simon

Pettigrew came from the property of a man named Asa Pillsbury in Bradenton, Florida back in the 1940s.. Part of his orchard was still there as of a couple years ago.

It was likely a Mulgoba seedling and it shares a number of traits with Mulgoba.

Laurence Zill's first mention of it can be found here:
http://fshs.org/proceedings-o/1950-vol-63/219-220%20(ZILL).pdf

To add a little more to the history of the "Pettigrew" mango (assumed parent of "Gary):  Asa Pillsbury and his step-son Carlos Earle, were breeders of hybrid mangos in Manatee County (west coast of Florida).  Carlos was a first cousin of Ruth Earle (wife of David Sturrock, who was a mango grower/breeder and my granddad in West Palm Beach).

Edward x Kent that Lara had was probably Edward x Kent #14, developed by David Sturrock and patented it as the " Young".

I am back and forth between West Palm and Jacksonville on a regular basis.  Let me know when you decide on your mango varieties and maybe I can source them locally in WPB.  Rare Fruit Council there is having a huge sale next Saturday.  I would be happy to haul 2 trees back North for a fellow mango enthusiast!  PM me if interested.
