Guava season in Socal
« on: October 05, 2017, 11:19:57 PM »
The aroma of guava is in the air and of course this mean Jalisco rojo. This variety is the sweet tart of guavas a perfect sweet & sour balance low seeds.

Nice!
Looks like more than one variety in photo.

My variegated guava (honeymoon) is holding few fruits.

It is definitely guava season. My wife showed me a couple pix of the guava in our backyard. They look wonderful. They're of unknown varieties-possibly Mexican, Thai, and Thai seedless or less seed. Makes me missing home.

i was fortunate enough to taste it and it is as good as Frank say it is.  I'm usually not a fan of red/pink flesh guavas.

I'll have cuttings available in March in my anona scions sale
Seeds are a pain in the butt cuttings and suckers are the fastest way to propagate guavas

Home made guava marmalade and guava shells delicious with cream and fresco cheese. If you like roast duck guava marmalade is the perfect companion......like cranberry glazed on turkey even better

those look like seedlings and not very good coloring

I have experimented with over 20 named varieties and a bunch seedlings currently growing three 3 varieties. I've introduced and grow Jalisco Rojo and Dolores red seedless(only RED seedless guava I've seen) because of their superior qualities.

Woah that Dolores totally seedless red is amazing! Can you comment on the taste and growing habit of the tree? Also will you have Dolores totally seedless red scions for sale?

Dolores is a sweet & tart guava they've topped at 18 brix that on the high side for a guava. I prefer Jalisco rojo as a dessert guava but Dolores is a superb guava for guava shell. I will offer scions and cutting in March during my annona scion sale. I believe Dolores is the only Red seedless guava around if anyone can find others please post

I think Robert has a red seedless Taiwanese variety. This is a small grafted tree that hasn't fruited yet.

this is a hybrid from Mexico I don't think Robert has anything close.
