No mad rage, zills is not propagating them anymore and a few customers where asking for them,so just picked up what i could to meet demand, I think their are much better varieties out there but some folks want one of everything. Guess all you need is enough space! lol

A perfectly ripened Cushman, without internal breakdown, is one of the best mangoes and a personal favorite of mine. Well worthy of a mad mango rage.  :)

I can only half agree as I have had some that were top notch and some that were just average at best, and from the same person...that, to me, is inconsistency.

It's been a while since my Cushman was taken by the hurricanes. But I remember it as not a handsome tree, and not overly vigorous (at least under south Florida conditions). Of course Harry can tell you more.

The fruit is a little different than some of the other good mangos, and in a nice way.

Cushman is an excellent flavored mango but it is a very shy producer most years. Has a unique shape...almost spherical.

The flavor is in the mild-rich category of the top-tier mangoes. Basically if you like Edward, you will probably like Cushman.

Zill stopped propagating it because Pine Island stopped ordering it. Its certainly worth growing but mainly as a collector's mango...basically if you have space for more than 3 trees.

As far as its vigor...mine seems to be a slow grower. But the trees do get fairly large in time. I would say they are medium-sized trees.

I agree it is a slower grower that can easily be maintained, however, it is kind of a scraggly looking tree so don't expect a beautiful shaped tree.  Disease resistance is poor and production is usually inconsistent and as said, can be shy.

The fruit basically looks like a large grapefruit, in size, shape and color.  Flesh is fiber free and creamy.  When good, flavor is very complex, rich and sweet.

Would I turn the fruit down, no  Would I seek it out, yes.  Would I plant a tree, not if I had limited space for the reasons above...I would instead seek out "friends" growing it for the fruit.  If space was not an issue, yes, I would grow at least one tree (due to bearing issue).

Is Cushman a shyer bearer than Edward? I bought a lovely 3gal specimen from Jeff and pugged it to ~ 2 ft this past May. It's almost tall as my 7ft Julie even after 2 tipping sessions. It looks like a 4.5' diameter funnel.

If it doesn't like your yard...yes.

Cushman tends to either produce 'ok' (like for Harry it seems), or hardly anything.

Edward seems to produce at a low but consistent level almost everywhere.
