Nectar of Neptune Mango
« on: May 23, 2018, 12:45:59 PM »
I saw Dr. Campbell is selling this variety at his farm in Homestead.
Anyone know the history? or really anything about it?

From what I gathered from commenting on the Facebook post it is a seedling of the winters variety

It's good. The ones I got were small to medium size. Great texture, and nice blended flavor of mango sweetness with a little tartness. Will ask about growth habit and history next visit.

Great, thanks for the responses.
I'll try to go there the first weekend of June and get some for myself

I had one I bought from Richard. It was super sweet but at bit over ripe. Most of the mangoes in my box were picked too green. A week later and I’ve only been able to eat a few. And some of the ones I ate were still tart around the edges. I think in their haste to have firm mangoes to ship well it means that locally were not going to get them optimally ripe if this is how they harvest. Nothing in my box was close to tree ripened.
