You mean in the wild... Because it is easy  to do for humans.  :)

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Creating a new citrus chimera like Prague Citsuma
« on: January 04, 2024, 10:50:12 AM »
Yes, it's me but I have no time to explain what I did.
Next week is OK.

First, I don't see that Citrus wakonai  is so early flowering. They must grow them in very good conditions like in a phytotron. I grow my citrus in "usual conditions" in my area. And Citrus wakonai takes at least tow years to flower, not less than one year as said.
It is the same for hybrids, more than 2 years, often 4 or 5 years.
However, compared to most of citrus ( 4 to 15 years for flowering) it can be considered as early flowering.

4
It goes well but it takes years.
I started to cross with citrus of Australia that work well and now I use usual citrus it will need several years to see the result...

5
I am studying the crosses but only the crosses of Citrus Wakonai.

Does this not getting orange color in warm climates apply to other citrus or just satsumas?

At least oranges  stay green in equatorial weathers.

It is Satsuma/poncirus chimera, occasionally pushing pure mandarin and pure poncirus (not a FD) twigs.
The prague chimera also gives twigs of poncirus with shinny skin fruits.

It might be the Yuanjiang Papeda. 17m
The honghe papeda is "only" 10m.

The fruit is harvested green in summer for its acidic juice.

tedburn> We don't have HLB (and don' t get it hopefully)

bussone> Zone 7 may not be immune from greening. At least, there are enough cold-tolerant plants than get HLB and enough cold-tolerant plants that can host psyllids that it could march north.

Bussone, Mühlacker is in Europe (Germany).  ;)

You mean phosphorous acid not phosphoric acid I presume.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Rooting Prague chimera cuttings
« on: August 03, 2022, 08:25:57 AM »
Since this cultivar is a rare chimera, any seeds planted from the fruits are likely to turn out to be plain Satsuma mandarin seeds. Although no one has actually tested that hypothesis, as far as I know.
I did it many times. If not pollinated we obtain pure mandarin but it gets easily pollinated contrary of satsuma.

If you notice falling leaves, move the pot away from the window.
Search for WLD (winter leaf drop).

Bưởi is pomelo and Bưởi Kỳ Đà is pomelo ky Da.

> In my experience it is hard to ask a native speaker about Citrus, as peoples knowledge varies so greatly, especially for more rare types.
That's true.

> It's my guess its possibly a Citron Pommelo hybrid ??
Don't forget, the leave is articulated and the petiole is not winged. It is nearer from lime or lemon than citron or pomelo.

Yes, but the shape of the leaves don't fit this.

Yes it seems its name is Kỳ Đà.
It is called pummelo, lime, lemon or citron.
In some video we can see the leaves. Short not winged petiole and articulate leave. Then it is not a pommelo nor a citron.
Lemons originate in Mediterranean region.
The last possibility is lime...
Now we need a proof.

An identification request from Thailand:
"In Vietnam we have a kind of big citrus fruit but we do not know its scientific name, could you please classify it for us.
Many thanks in advance ”.

I know we've already had this discussion for the Disneyland citrus fruit. But the answer was not obvious...

OK. This time I succeeded!
I received the mail and it even accepted the old password.
Usually when one ask to change his password the old password is refused...
Now I shall try to suppress the new account.

Few minutes later: I didn't find a way to suppress an account  :-( .

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Can citrus survive winter without sunlight?
« on: August 02, 2021, 04:16:15 AM »
In the old forum someone posted about how they had kept plants in total dark and cold for several weeks before they started to lose leaves.
It is not saying they loose their leaves at the end!
 http://citrusgrowersstatic.chez.com/web/viewtopicdcc0.php
They have been the whole winter in full dark (15 weeks) and didn't loose any leaf.

25
I already had 45°C/113°F in my green house and nothing happened.
Obviously, if the pots were dry the citrus would have died...

Indeed, everybody does as he wants.  :)
