Citrus General Discussion / Re: Grapefruit Tree Fungus
« on: February 11, 2024, 02:57:08 PM »
Your grapefruit tree may have a little fungus, but I believe the main problem with the tree is that it is greatly under fertilized.  A tree that size should be fertilized 3 times a year.  Many growers in your area use either a 6-6-6 or a 8-8-8 formula fertilizer, or some formulation close to those ratios.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: when to pick Chandler pummelo?
« on: February 09, 2024, 04:21:03 PM »
Your growing conditions are not hot enough.  When I grew Chandler I kept my night time temperatures at 50F night, and 80/90F daytime.  Thee fruit was pink in color.

Couple comments.  1. Why does anyone bother with citrus like Citrondarin.   2. I grow both meiwa and nagami and I find meiwa MUCH sweeter than nagami.  However, each to their own.

Yes, it is surely white fly.   You can spray with horticultural oil which will kill all the insects eggs. Then keep a careful watch and  reapply if and when necessary.

Lauta is correct. The seed are long past dead.   The buyer of the lemon must have a lot of extra cash.

Xie Shan is excellent.   Valentine Pumelo is very sweet with no acid.

It is the wind against a tree shaking the tree back and forth that generates resistance that provides stem strength to the tree.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Growing Sour Orange Tree in Florida

None of the above citrus varieties are resistant to HLB.  In Florida, they will be doomed.  Citrus seedlings when they germinate and grow they will also be killed by HLB.

If left on the tree too long they get quite puffy and loose some of their fresh taste.

He sure plants a lot of trees in very small pots.  It is no wonder the fruit ae so small.  I think it is Meiwa.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Citrapot Planting
« on: January 23, 2024, 05:32:22 PM »
When you remove your new citrus tree from the citrapot you will be amazed how large the tree's root system will be.  VERRY CAREFULLY spread out the root system somewhat to approximately  match the container you are going to replant into.  DO NOT BE IN A HURRY.  BE CAREFFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE ROOT SYSTEM. DO NOT LET THE ROOTS DRYOUT WHILE YOU ARE TRAMSPLANTING THE TREE.   Using a water spray from a hose helps greatly.

Apply the fertilizer right after you up pot.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Leaf cuttings citrus propagation
« on: January 18, 2024, 01:12:21 PM »
Well after reading Dr. Manners thoughts, I maintain my concern if the tree actually "came" from the leaf.  My remaining consideration is,  as Dr. Manners wrote, the tree most likely developed from an axillary bud that came along with the leaf when it was torn from the mother tree, and not from the leaf itself.  Whatever occurred, it is quite an amazing situation.  One in a million or even higher situation.  From time to time it would be great if you would keep this forum up to dated on how this tree does in the future. CONGRATULATIONS!

You can start now.  You grow your trees indoors, so they could be blooming now or in a week or two.

Well, I for one do not believe it is possible to produce a tree from a citrus leaf.   I'll stick with Dr. Manners  on the subject.

Looking at the pictures, I notice that the leaf that was rooted was just a simple mono foliate leaf.  The leaves shown in the picture of what was claimed to have come from the afore mentioned leaf are all trifoliate leaves.   Not from the original leaf.

You will have to wait until it warms up before you can actually see the full result of the cold temperature damage.

According to Dr. Malcolm Manners of the University of Southern Florida and Chair of the Citrus department, it is impossible to create a citrus tree from a leaf.

There is also bark chips that many container growers use called Repti Bark.  I have used it also and it works great.  It can be purchased from Amazon and Pet Supply Stores.

With alkaline/hard water you should start  collecting rain water.  You could mix your water 50\50 with the rain water.

Pomelos do not come true from seed. Does not mean the fruit may be better or worse, but it means the fruit will be different.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Amalfi Coast Lemon ID

The Amalfi Coast and Sorrento area produces several different kinds of lemons. The one you have certainly looks like an Amalfi lemon. The gigantic Amalfi lemons are actually citrons, contain little juice and are more for show.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Tarocco#7 same as Tarocco or not?
« on: January 03, 2024, 05:27:13 PM »
The 'Bream Tarocco', which was originally produced by Robert Bream of Lindsay, California, is of medium to large fruit with few to no seeds. 'Tarocco #7', or 'CRC 3596 Tarocco', is known for its flavor, but has a rind with little to no coloration. (taken from Internet)
