I do have a few seedling Canistel that is large enough to graft onto.

I will update this sale today.

I will be finished shipping out all orders by Friday, and I still have extra cuttings. So if you want to buy 1-2 cuttings, send me a message. Here's the update for the sale:

1. Large Yellow Passion fruit cutting, qty=2 max, let me know the quantity you like to buy.

2. You must be a TFF forum member for a minimum of 6 months.

3a. Cost is $10 for one cutting, length that will fit a USPS small flat rate box (5"x8")

3b. For CA residence, I should be able to use a slightly longer box (for same ship cost) for your cutting so it may be up to 12 inches long, and probably can have some leaves on the cut branch for rooting.

4. Cost to ship is USPS priority, $11. This is the small flat rate box, typically 2-day delivery.

5. Total Cost => $21 for 1 cutting.
5a. Total Cost => $31 fpr 2 cuttings.

6. Payment with PayPal only, "Friends & Family" option.

7. Lower 48 states

8. I have the right to refuse to sell to anyone, if I don't reply then you are not getting on the list.

9. Send me a message to make the purchase. I will provide Paypal info, and after shipping you will get a tracking number (USPS priority mail).

These cutitngs were taken last weekend, 4/13-4/14. Passion fruit cuttings keep for a few weeks with no problem as long as it has moisture and out of the sun.

Ok, thank you for the English translation of your info, appreciate it.

Yes, maybe someone got the seeds from the Carmine fruits and grew it in Taiwan since this one seems to be the only one I know around here on the forums that is this large. No one has mentioned they grow it yet.

That's why I'm sharing the cuttings with 10-20 members of this forum so next year, they can spread cuttings to other friends, and we should be able to archive this nice guava fruit. I'm also growing out as many seeds as I can from the fruits so that if the people who bought the cuttings are not successful grafting or rooting it, I should have seedlings next year to share. I just so happy that I stumbled across this wonderful guava.

So, maybe the Sylvia guava grows larger (weight) than any of the Carmine series so it may not be from the same family of guavas.

Yes, I figured that much from my web search. Just don't know many people who grow it, or have tasted it

Sir Graftalot, if you have eaten any of them, and measured the weight, can you reply to my question on weight as well.

Sir Graftalot, sorry but my question was for the person who posted all these new photos from China.

=> fanshiliu, please reply if you can to my questions.

No, he only had that last one in his refrig, I guess I can go and ask him to let me try 1/4 of the fruit since we seem to be having a conflicting taste results.

Let me email the guy since I'm going over there tomorrow and see if he can save me a little piece to try or it will be another 12-18 months for the next round of ripe fruits from his tree.

What is the difference between the Four Season Red and Carmine?

Is it because Four Season Red has fruits all four season of the year?

I think the Sylvia guava I found is more similar to the Four Season than the Carmine. Can you tell me the weight of the largest Four Season fruits?

The largest Sylvia guava (if you saw my posts) is 243 grams, which is larger than any Carmine photos I have seen.

Not selling any more loquat or any other fruit cuttings, to much work, need to do my own things.

But no, the China Whiite is sweeter than Vista White.

11
I just went over to the house to do more grafting and the Sylvia guava tree still had more new fruits on it. The photos of the green fruits above that I showed are all gone, I think the squirels ate them all. So I picked some of the large green fruits this time so I can let it ripen and get the seeds to plant. I could have had a lot of seeds if I picked off all those green large fruits last time I was there. It's ok, I have over 100 seeds that I'm germinating now.

fanshiliu, thank you for posting these photos of the Carmine guava. If you can translate in English any of your comments that would be nice.

I have not seen these Carmine guava photos so your pictures are appreciated, thanks.

I think there were a few other TFF members that mention this to me as well. It sure does look very similar to the guava fruit you posted, I'm excited to see this.

The person who has this large tree (height about 17 feet) told me his relative brought the tree from Taiwan. He has 2 trees, his tree and one more at another house.

So far, for me this guava is my favorite of all of the ones I have eaten. Still did not taste the frutis from JF (Frank) pnk/red flesh guava called Delores and Jalisco. My grafted branches of this one is still growing slow and may not get a fruit on it for another year. If anyone else (besides Brad) is growing Frank's guava, please post some photos of it here so I can see what it looks like. I surprised that not many if anyone else has Frank's guava fruiting yet.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Anyone Growing Russell Avocado?
« on: April 18, 2024, 12:37:13 AM »
I did review the info on Carlos's website. His fruit is shiny, skinny like a wilson long neck (popinoe). The Russell fruits I showed above is fatter, skin doesn't shine, and is creamy and very good tasting is what I hear. The tree is growing at the person's parents' house, and he has been eating the fruits for a long time and says it is a very good tasting avocado.

Carlos needs to fiind another source, his doesn't look like it to me. But, it could be that this Russell growing in Hawaii  (purchased at nursery) may be a seedling tree so that may be the reason these fruits look so much larger/fatter, and does not have that shinny green skin.

Notice that Carlos's avocado fruit is shinny green with no dots, the photos of the fruits above have small dots on the outside of the skin.

I saw the fruit I posted of the Marcus Pumpkin, it had no fibers. The person who grows this tree said it is creamy, sweet, and tastes good. You must have had a bad one. The inside of the large fruit is yellow, like a Hass, but much more flesh to eat.

Sounds good, now I just need to get a large enough rootstock to graft some good ones.

I went to a CRFG member's house to pick up my Marcus Pumpkin cuttings and he has 3 large lucuma trees. At least one had fruits, the trees are tall (over 20 ft) so its hard to see what the fruits look like. Maybe when I go back there I will get up on the 10ft ladder and try to get a photo of the fruit to show.

Anyone know how easy it is to graft the tree to a seedling?

I might go over to Alex's place and get a scion wood from him if he has the moist variety that you guys like. If you know which variety is the best tasting let me know and I might check with Alex. I'm not really into lucuma, just checking for Aastair really.

The person who lives here in Fullerton said I can take a few cuttings since we are trading right now.

When I looked up and saw his fruit on this large tree, it seemed to be the pointy tip fruit. Like the first one in the photo above, not the SD fruit.

China White is sweeter.

But the brix reading a few years ago showed they were close.

China White: brix = 17, 16.5, 17.5

Vista White: brix = 13, 16, 17

The fruits of Vista White is almost 2x the size of China White. My Vista White is very productive so it has as much fruits in the cluster as the China White.

Jack,

The people in Hawaii say its excellent tasting, they give it away to all their neighbors since they get so much and can't eat all of them. There is more fruits than what I show in this photo.

I'm grafting some this week. I'm sure if I had extras people here would love to buy it. Sorry, but I don't have extras of this one.

Hi Jack, the Russell scions I'm grafting is from a large tree in Hawaii, here's the fruits from the mother tree.

This is from the one tree.

21
Guava grafts do take a long time, maybe 3-6 months before you see the new buds grow out.

Very slow, but not as bad as grafting Lychee.

22
Ok, will check my grafts later, I did my grafts 3 weeks after the last shipment to people who purchased them.

Here's my seed germination status. At least there will be seedlings.

23
Has anyone else get the seeds to germinate yet, progress?

24
Here's what the seed looks like.

25
Hee's a seedling in a 1 gallon pot that I received.
