Two year old Red Jabo plants
« on: January 29, 2018, 07:19:02 AM »
I have two 2 year old Red Jabo plants, planted in  4gal. 'Air prunning' pots. They were alright till about three months back. But now they do not look happy at all. Is it because of lack of water? I have fertilised them with compost and also micros. Awaiting guidance from the experts. Thanks.

I can't see the pictures here (long story), but jabos love water; their natural habitat is areas that spend long periods of time submerged during the rainy season. I remember a long time ago someone here did an experiment where they tried to kill a jabo with too much water... when overwatering didn't cut it, they left its roots submerged for a long period of time in an aquarium, and when that didn't cut it, they left the whole tree at the bottom of the aquarium (it eventually died, but it took quite some time!)

Those Red's look good to me! You could up pot 1 or put 1 in the ground and see if it starts to look better than the other.

I would put the plants in at least 15 gallon pots, they look great to me.

What has changed to cause your concern?

Thanks, everyone. The leaves have been feeling sort of brittle and greyish, with no new flushes. I have put them in basins of water. I will wait and see.

I have a 3 year old tree in a pot which I put a tray under to hold the water
and it easily drinks the tray in a few hours
