Annona reticulata - Canul" or Tikal"
« on: July 03, 2019, 04:45:50 PM »
Hi all,

I have been looking for these 2 A. reticulata varieties forever but no one seems to have them, so I'm hoping someone out there knows where to purchase them, or has budwood for sale.  Thanks, all!

Best regards,
Scott

Have you checked Pepe's

https://www.pepesplants.com/tropical-fruit-names.html

I don't know and have not done business with them but have seen youtube videos and they seem legit.
The page I linked to has Tikal Custard Apple somewhere on there, check it out and good luck.

Regarding Canul

Looks like Har or FloridaGreenman may be able to help, they have posted about Canul in the past.  Many years ago :)

No luck :-(  I'm holding out hope that someone out there has these 2 varieties in their collection and is willing to share.

Do you know how to graft? If so, I think I may have a source for budwood for at least one of the two varieties.

What was the custard apple cv. that Bill Whitman grew at his home? It's listed as a 'Tikal' grafted on Annona scleroderma in his book.

Hi Sayyid,

They were actually my first go-to.  Unfortunately, they advised that they lost both plants (and, tragically, much of their collection) to the hurricanes.

I think Excalibur had a large Canul tree in a container years ago. They still might. It's probably useless to call and ask about it though. I wish I remembered this post a few months ago. I would have gone and looked for it for you. It may be a few months at least before I would be able to go.

Hi Oolie,

I just called Fruitscapes.  He says he just grafted about 20 "Tikal" plants so he should have some available mid-May (once he confirms that they have taken).  Now I just need to find "Canul".....

Just a quick update:  Fruitscapes was a bust.  He had them - then mysteriously didn't have them.  Anyway, still looking so if anyone out there has any sources I'd really appreciate the help.

Best regards,
Scott

I don't have either one of those but I was curious if you ever came across 'Benque' in your search.

Sorry Fruitscapes didn’t work. I was there a few weeks ago and they had 2-3 small 3g Tikals left that I saw. I picked one of them up.
