I like to mix my soil for containers with charred rice husks. It is sold in Thailand as cactus-soil.

I didn't know it was so good for the soil, i will use it more because it is very cheap as well.

i have read that charcoal is good for the soil

charred rice husks allows the silica in it to be easily uptake by the plants.

I see, never seen the cake here but enough neem oil (nahm sadao in thai).
Against nematodes you can also use wood vinegar, i just bought that for spraying.
