Help with a mango ID..?
« on: July 19, 2015, 07:13:23 PM »
Hello friends, I picked these off my mothers mango tree. She lives in a house build in 1923, the tree is def full grown and has been since she bought the house 20 years ago.
Tree is around 30ft tall, fruit is very sweet, 4.5-6 inches length, 14 inch circumference, I do not have a scale to measure fruit weight. Any thoughts?

I blew up the picture twice, but the leaves were blurry.

Can you HEAR fiber when you cut a fruit that is still firm?

If so, it is probably a 'Tommy Atkins', many of which are actually ripening this late this year.

Hello friend, I have not tried to cut one not ripe, but I ate two yesterday and there's no fiber at all. The tree was probably planted in 1930-40 if that narrows it down at all.

Kent.

Tree is probably not as old as you think.

Yes, Kent.

The leaves should be a bit curled up at the sides, making a shallow trough.

Yep, my first thought was kent too from looking at the pics. BTW, you need a few more trees in your yard before you are officially a mango fanatic!:)
