Title: Where are the Mango Blooms?

I'm guessing since its been a very warm/hot above normal temps for Nov. and Dec. there are NO blooms or even the hint of any blooms in sight ( at least not for me) in Central FL...

Anybody out there in this neck of the woods have any signs of blooms? Looks like the blooms won't show up till late January or early Feb which may not necessarily be a bad thing if we have a late frost...time will tell.

Rain and warm temps...how would you expect an early bloom?  I would not be overly concerned unless we get into February and you are still asking the same thing.  Just have some patience. ..

Bigger worry is what the lychee season will bring, or may not bring other than sparse crop and exorbitant prices.

Yah, once the dry season finally starts, we should start seeing blooms. Bad news for lychee here on my property. It looks like year #6 without a lychee crop for me.

I walked out into my yard today and noticed my first tree with mango panicles forming! It was my Bombay mango! None of my others have shown any signs of flowering. I'm trying to be patient...

Pugs my Carrie always blooms in December and again in summer time .

I'll try to have a little more patience  ;)...Congrats Brev and Ed!!

One thing I do not have to worry about is my Lychee...I always have enough chilling hours for those to bloom every year. The mangoes usually get powdery mildew almost every year due to humid/foggy/wet winter when I do get blooms :-\

Could you give me more information about this requirement? does the mango trees need 10 consecutive nights under 60F to start flowering?

Technically no, but estimates vary. Trees is the tropics will rarely see temperatures in that range but still bloom, albeit much less uniformally.

In Florida I've observed that the strongest, fullest blooms will occur when nighttime temperatures are in the 50s or lower for 2 consecutive weeks with some nights dipping into the 40s or below. But partial blooms can be encouraged simply by protracted dry weather as well depending on location, cultivar and relative humidity.

I would agree with no, as we did not drop below 60 at all last winter and our mango trees had huge uniform blooms. I have also seen uniform blooming of man goes in other perpetually tropical areas, which makes sense as they are a tropical plant...I'm not sure where this under 60F idea comes from. For citrus perhaps but never had an issue with full bloom here.

I've had mostly nights above 60 degrees here since the beginning of November  :'(

@Squam WOO HOO!!!! I am definitely making the trip over to your place this season. :) Do you sell trees or budwood as well as fruit?

I have seen quite a bit of bloom around Sarasota. My friends' Julie, Rosigold, and Carrie are all loaded. My Pickering is flowering now but all of my mango flowers are getting the hack this year. More money for Squam and John Paynter.

My Jean Ellen has just pushed out some spikes. This is the earliest I have ever had blooms - even when I lived in Naples I didn't get blooms until February or March. I don't know why it has always been so delayed.

I am jealous of Squam - of course.

Puglvr, I am not too far from you in Venus, so you should be getting some spikes soon. We just had two nights in the mid-forties.

What the modest Squam-Alex has is a mango cathedral of 50 ft high Edward mango trees. 10-15 of them. He has numerous other mango and avocado varieties and other fruit trees too                                  BTW how are your Ison doing?

Squam bought a cherry picker and is threatening to top off his massive Edward trees//// So see them before it happens

Erica, glad you have some blooms  :)...Hopefully I'll have some soon. I'm hating this upper 80's Christmas week  :'(
