Anyone out there have this available? Got some seeds last year but I think they got too hot in my mailbox. Seeds looked good but after stratification planted them and didn't get any sprouts. Would like another go at these guys.

Derek, I had been getting these from a friend in Central Texas. Not this year though. These are slow growing and maturing small trees. I have a male that has been flowering for several years, but until last year no female mature enough. Last spring another set a few flowers, but didn't hold them. It is a female, so I might get some fruit this coming spring. I'll send out seeds if I get any. D

*** Update, I misread the initial post. I thought we were talking about Diospyros Viginiana for some reason. I also have Diospyros Texana established well in 1 gallons, but no seed.

Also recently heard there's a close black sapote relative that's cold hardy. Is it these guys or another diospyros species? Interested in that if they are different.

Maybe Diospyros riojae. I haven't seen anything about cold hardiness yet.

I'll see if I can find again where I heard that. Pretty sure it was in a John Kohler or Pete Kanaris video. Think it was a nursery review video of HEART in central Florida. They showed some seedlings that the video host said were a close black sapote relative that's significantly more cold hardy than regular black sapote. Definitely want that if I can figure out what exact species that was.

Diospyros texana is very cold hearty I believe. They grow west of Austin here in Texas in 7a/7b on a lease plot I hunt on. Plentiful but slow growing trees. Could possibly source seeds or seedlings. However, I cannot ensure nor can I tell the difference between male or female plants

I can only tell from their flowers. The male flowers hang like a bell and the female flowers are upright. D

Fruit are about 2 weeks from ripening here in Austin...I can get seeds again this year if you still need some. Just PM me.

Did manage to get a few small trees that are doing well fortunately. However I still want a bunch of seeds if possible. Would trade or buy them if the price is right. Would take 100+ seeds if you get them. What value do you want outta them if you can collect a bunch?
