Best potting medium for starfruit (Averrhoa carambola)?
« on: March 07, 2020, 05:37:32 PM »
Hi,

I will be re-potting my starfruit plant into a large container. What potting medium is best for starfruit?

Thanks.

Hi,

I have a starfruit which has grown great over the last year or so in a pot. I just used a 'premium potting mix' which is made by a local company here and has a mix of some compost and manure through it's blend with composted bark. I added some perlite to keep the mix free draining and to reduce the soil compacting in the pot.

I've found that they really love water so if you can keep them nice and moist and have a decent potting mix you should do just fine.

If you move them into a bigger pot, make sure the medium hold water. I lost some with fast draining soil. Even during the winter with cold temps they drink a lot of water.
