How would a large growing tree develop in a container? Will it grow as normal in height and fruit or will it simply just stop once the roots begin to twirl around itself?
Would depend on the tree, the size container and how you cared for it.  I have seen large mangoes growing and fruiting in a 100, 200, 300 and 500 gallon pots.  To optimally care for it you would ant to root prune every year or two...problem here is that maneuvering trees that large and pots that big require machinery and usually more than one person.

Argh!!!!! I'm just gonna have to live with three trees and be done with it. I'm afraid if I don't get a decent late season tree started with the rest of them I will go through mango withdraw come August. I know this because I find myself looking for mangoes now. I don't what to buy some once / twice frozen, picked-to-early store brand and be upset with myself.  :'(
