April, not the cruelest month
« on: April 17, 2012, 10:21:26 AM »
A few pictures from my yard in "greater" Lake Worth, Florida.

Wacissa black mulberry

Passion cv of Surinam Cherry

J-31 gets planted this weekend -- thanks Jeff

Joellen usually has good fruit set, but these clusters are more voluptuous than in most years.

Beautiful Mallika from Brooks Nursery, where everyone on staff is good to his mother.

What do you have wrapped around the Mallika?

Yes, the Mallika is in a Superroots container. I'm not positive, but I think 12-gallons was the largest I could find (or afford).
It's only been a few months, so I can't say anything about the containers, really.

What soil mix are you using? You should try some SWC (self watering containers) containers out as well, I have gotten great results with them so far.

Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Can you tell me more about the Superroots container? Do you think its worth the cost? I'd love to grow some container mangos-I didn't do well in the past
Thanks
Nat

Nat, I don't have the experience to comment yet. I did read some favorable comments from other forum members (possibly back on GardenWeb).    Naturally the superroots.com website is very favorable.....
My other smaller trees are potted in fabric pots, which I guess work on the same principle. They were not as expensive.

Nullzero, I'm using Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting mix.  I'm hoping it won't let the plants dry out too much this summer when I'm away for 3-day weekends.   I've read about many potting soil mixes on the forum. I'm guessing there is trial and error as far as matching the soil to the pot to the tree.
