Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Longan Planting Questions
« on: August 17, 2013, 10:36:06 AM »
My longan is 7 ft tall. It survived brief periods of 30's last winter without protection. I read that partially shaded portions of the trees do not bear fruits as well. Mine loves full sun and new shoots are less sensitive to wind damage than lychees.
Thank you so much, your comment will help me a lot!  ;D

I don't know u that well, but I already like u for liking this plant.

I will keep you in mind.

If I keep them alive, I will surely attempt some grafts well before they ever will flower or fruit.

Thanks for expressing your interest in annonas.  It hasn't gone unnoticed.

 :)
I love annonas too! I only have and try cherimoyas, but for shure i will try to grow others too!  ;)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: In ground tree spacing questions
« on: August 13, 2013, 01:05:33 PM »
Ya, Longans love sun, not to mention that are very vigorous growers, at least in my experience.

Full sun is necessary for commercial production, but if you favor diversity over quantity then closer spacing is acceptable an maintainable.
And one more question, they will like to be below a big tree or it's out of question (still a sunny point). And is cold hardy as lychees? Thank you so much!  ;D

Luisport, a lot of great mangos have come from seedlings just like that. I once planted a seedling mango and after a few short years, it produced fruit. But, because the quality of the fruit and the fruit production wasn't good, I ended up destroying it. I've come to the conclusion that when it comes to seedlings, the chances of getting a quality fruit and tree, increase when more than one seedling is planted. By the way, it seems you've perfected the technique of removing the hard exterior seed and sprouting the almond, nice.

Hey i lived in Wauchula, FL, USA, when I was a young boy. I'm very tempted to say that I threw a lot of avocado seeds in the ground, so the Golden avocado variety probably is mine.  ;D
Thank's Leo this one is growing very nice... we have very little varieties available, so this diferente one are allways a good try!  ;D
