Wilsons Ultimo Chrysophyllum cainito Star Apple

Anyone heard of the Wilsons Ultimo cultivar? Something from Excalibur maybe. There is a large tree at the botanical park I take care of.

Probably. I remember seeing that cultivar on Zill's price sheet, and zill's and excalibur tend to share budwood.

Can you post a picture of the tree?

I didn't take any. It looks like a normal Caimito. This one was left to grow for a decade and just went through it's second round of regenerative pruning in three months for canopy reduction and scaffolding reassignment surgery.

I was told it flowers heavily but has never fruited. I am going to graft on one or two more cultivars for some cross pollination.

Thanks Cookie! I haven't seen it around. Maybe they stopped grafting it because it needed cross pollination.

Interesting. I remember Noel Ramos had a tree from Exalibur (perhaps the Ultimo?) that never fruit despite prodigious blooms year after year.
