Collected in the jungle .
« on: January 23, 2014, 03:25:06 PM »
This was found by one of my guys in the Jalisco Mexico jungle . The fruit looks like it was attached to these mushroom type of things , see pic in right corner .
Was sweet and creamy , I only tasted with the tip of my tong didn't wanna take risks...still alive 5 hours later...

What could this be ?

I don't know what those red things are and I'm curious to know.

But if I'm ever stranded on an island or a forest I want to buddy up with you and let you do the taste test first.

Glad your alive.

I'm not 100% sure but it could be Spondias purpurea.

Not a chance that's spondias purpurea, which is a well known weed around here, same as muntingia calabura, i also wonder what's that Luc has found, while searching around here for eugenia acapulcensis (which according to tropicos.org there should be a few trees located really close to my house in Acapulco downtown)   i happened to find two trees with red berries that nobody seem to know, I'll post pictures someday ;)

Very interesting, so those red, candy looking things are the seeds? If so, would it be possible to see a picture of the fruit?

If it is a zamia, which is believable, then the fruit would be a cone with those red fruits/seeds.  Zamias are generally poisonous but can make very nice ornamentals.  They can be valuable.
