Planning on putting “Grimal” in ground it has fully rooted out in 15 gallon. My plan is to amend the native sandy soil in10’x10’  space with 9cubic ft of peat moss, some composted horse n cow manure, and dusting of bone and blood meal. All this mixed in thoroughly with top 2 ft of soil.
Are there any other amendments i should use?

Introducing “ Ruby Grapefruit” Surinam, out of eight fruiting seedling trees I have one of decent eating quality that to me taste has balanced flavor resemblance of “ruby” grapefruit.
 This may be a common flavor profile among some varieties of Surinam.

No Pisang raja sounds like a great banana though, do others agree Pisang raja is the manzano banana? Are their other names for this banana?

I think you would love Pisang Ceylon and Mysore, Pisang ceylon seems to have bigger fruit and more berry flavor while mysore seem to be smaller fruit  and more honey flavor.
Raja puri grow like a dwarf compared to the other two, the fruit is excellent eating with mild berry flavor.

Growing and fruiting several types myself. Just recently did an exterior job for client and was able to try fruit from her Surinam. They were very large and extremely juicy, some of the best ive had. I noticed the tree trunk had a sprinkler head 2 ft away and was receiving lots of water weekly. I’ve noticed on my own Surinams the largest juiciest fruit comes during the rains.

Who’s still Jabo Hunting?! My Sabara has started to fruit finally and find them excellent eating. This thread has me a little confused on the “ Grimal” variety. Is Grimal still thought to be a spirito- santensis?

My Sabara growth rate is more than a foot per year, I know they can push 30 ft in height here in Florida.

I followed Zills advice for pruning larger trees where he said remove half the canopy each year, the half  I removed after fruiting did not bloom this year.

Your tree will continue to drop existing leaves to make way for new spring growth. The sops here are all pushing new leaves now that warmer weather is back.

They seem to be everbearing trees, they only slowdown for the cold here, some completely shutdown. They are lovers of sunshine, water and nutrient rich soil.

Orinoco 2nd rack, this one came out flexing



The planting location is slightly mounded about two feet. Lee organic Compost was mix into the top few feet of soil as well as some organic fertilizers( bonemeal, bloodmeal, horse and chicken). Mulching and  top dressing of horse manure applied after planting. Two applications of Chicken manure have been applied to root zone few months apart. Watering as needed averaging twice weekly.



May 23rd nearing 2 months after install.

Seedling from PIN. It does get the most sun outta the 3 trees flowering.

I have one tree that sets fruit well on its own. I have not seen  any nitidulid beetles on the tree or its flowers, I have only seen small ants and some flies on tree and flowers. Im thinking Maybe this tree sets fruit very well because it’s receptive to its own pollen.

Flower petals have fallen and pollen is dropping, stigmas are still white, Im wondering if they are still receptive in this stage.
