Greetings from Ecuador
« on: December 21, 2018, 10:46:01 AM »
Actually from upstate NY, but recently bought 80 acres in northwest Ecuador. Altitude 1400 meters (4600 feet) cloud forest conditions. The property is a mix of primary forest, secondary growth, a bit of pasture. Plenty of room around the house to plant lots of fruit trees.

Currently there are a few trees, mandarins, bananas, yellow dragonfruit etc.

Neighbors are growing naranjilla, plantains, sugar cane (for their stills) and coffee.
Also there is a lot of forest.

I have lots of fruit trees here in NY, but totally new to the tropical thing.

Going to visit this place next month to buy some trees. http://www.plantas.ec/catalogo.pdf
They appear to have a pretty good selection. I'm interested in other sources also.

Hoping to meet other people who are in Ecuador  on here  :)

You've got a great land with a very good condition for various tropical species!

There's one thing is that importing trees/seeds from abroad into Ecuador is challenging. Exporting is easier but things will get as strict as importing soon :(

I assumed I could just bring seeds in... no?

It looks like Jim West's place isn't too far away, so there's that.
