Starling, it grows as a street tree in Cairns and is disturbingly good looking. I didn't think they were edible out of hand, but were cooked with rice?

The picture shows opposite leaves.Lecythidaceae have alternate leaves.
Yes there are street trees around in my town and I thought they must be pretty common and nothing special.
In the middle of the photo, the tip of one twig is clearly visible.
