That's friggin awesome! I love carnivorous plants. Do you know what's best for fruit flies? I've been meaning to pick up some Venus Flytraps, Pitcher Plants and the one you have. Time to do some research:)

Venus is a bust. Sponleaf Sundew also failed for me. Never tried pitcher. The Sundew pictured which I think is cape, really cleans up. Wants rain or distilled water.

What "flies" is it protecting from?  As Simon referred to in his response, the only flies inside the house i could see needing to be control would be fruit flies.

I did a little bit of you tubing last night and looks like the Sundew is the best for fruit flies. I make my own fruit fly traps with alcohol and a cup but there's always some that won't go in and only hang around the edge of my traps. I would guess that these Sundews would be perfect to get the ones that want to just hang around.

What a coincidence. I bought a Cape Sundew and a Butterwort for fruit flies in the home last week Tuesday. I grow green chives and green onions indoors and for some reason it attracts fruit flies. I hope it works out for me.

I think butterwort need too much humidity. Some sundew and sarracenias are okay. Sarracenias will trap house flies and does better in bright light like outdoors.

I lost my butterworts after a move to a place with a darker living room. They didn't like the shade.
A few years ago I gave away my large clumps of 3 kinds of sarracenias and stopped doing carnivorous plants altogether. Too much work to keep refilling the pots every couple days or they die.

I don't think the ones I grew were controlling or reducing populations of anything.
sundews could work. A guy in San Diego Carnivorous Plant Society that gave me seeds of one that branches like coral and does fine in room atmosphere. I doubt the seeds are still good anymore.
