Young Pitangatuba Decline
« on: May 25, 2020, 07:05:27 PM »
Hello - A couple of my pitangatubas are not doing well. Many of the leaves are getting reddish spots.  Here are a few photos:

The plants are in full sun, they get plenty of water. The problem seemed to begin after I fertilized them (used liquid VPG Fertilome). I'm wondering if maybe my soil blend is too dense - maybe waterlogged roots? I thought I was using a well draining soil blend - it's a bagged mix called "Menehune Magic".
I'm grateful for any your ideas about how to help my plants. - Jen

I got similar on one of mine when I overfertilized. If the electrolyte concentration is too high it can't take up enough water .

Maybe try filtered or half day sun.

I am in central Florida and I do mine in partial shade and the plants stay really dark green. But I have seen many plants with the reddish "Rust" looking leaves. I would be careful about fertilizer on them, but I use Epsoma HollyTone. The soil i have used on all mine in pots is an acidic premix soil or I make soil from peat moss and pearlite.

I have seen many plants like yours and it doesn't seem to affect them that much, but I would put them in partial shade to see if the plant improves.

Sounds like possible over fertilization and too much sun exposure.  Thanks all, for your help!!!
